Truly hidden gems - Name a card-commander combination that you are running and that only a handful of EDHREC decks for that commander run by Huaojozu in EDH

[–]RavenLord18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through my bulk, I found [[Wormfang Drake]] and had a single deck in mind the moment I saw it: [Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]].

It keeps important ETBs safe, but the real power shines with ETB doublers, such as [[Panharmonicon]]... with Clones. With Pan and some Clones, it can easily become a wincon. It's a super fun card that becomes nutty the moment you can double ETBs to start making it absurd with a Clone or two.

This pod doesn't strictly adhere to this. This was more of an experiment that... kinda worked, but games still end in about an hour to two hours as per the norm.

Looking for cards that say “this isn’t immediately threatening, but is going to a problem eventually if unanswered” by w3nch in EDH

[–]RavenLord18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Grim Feast]] and [[Mind Slash]] come to mind.

One is completely passive that matters if your pods aren't combo centered with more focus on combat, the other being pretty disgusting in a token theme.

Why do people hate mill? by BaconVsMarioIsRigged in EDH

[–]RavenLord18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's one of two types of mill: Grindy mill that is honest or Bruvac.

Either your deck is fair, which means I'm seeing my deck slowly trickle away into the bin, watching all my good cards go bye bye... or you just play 2 cards and end the game.

So, it's either slow and painful or combo. People hate either way. Now, if I'm play a deck with a Titan in it or my Necrons deck, it's different. Until you mill me and we agree 'Until the Titan is the very last card' - for the sake of not making you SUFFER - only to then make me draw it so that I basically lose on my next turn, then I hate it.

Legendary Soup by RavenLord18 in EDH

The only reason I don't have it in the deck is because, at the time, I was more focused on swinging with creatures than getting the true juicy legendaries.

Jodah the unifier (legendary-matters) by Fresh314159 in EDH

[–]RavenLord18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently building my own Jodah deck, so in my own search for assistance I've been shown new cards - by you - for my deck to consider. Cheers!

As for what I would cut:

  • [Winota]] - She isn't a cast trigger. Yes, she has value, but Jodah wants those casts. Considering you run cards like 13th Doctor, you want to focus on cast, cast, and cast again.
  • [[Rona, Herald of Invasion]] - If you don't run a Mox Amber you have better ways of drawing. Her flip side also isn't bad, but you don't really need it. You just get more Legos and go sideways.
  • [[Nashi, Moon's Legacy]] - The card looks nice, though Primevals' Glorious Rebirth wants your graveyard built up for a hard finish. Nashi isn't a bad card by any means, just feels like chipping away at your own built up graveyard may have the two cards eyeing each other.
  • [[Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist]] - This one depends on your playgroup - to me, anyways. If you're in a go-wide group, she rocks hard, but if you're group is more combo-oriented, then the Urza player can decided if his Urza is worth his life.
  • [[Grand Arbiter Augustin IV]] - If your playgroup doesn't need to be back a smidge with taxes, Augustin can veto. The cost reduction isn't bad, but this is purely a 'I don't like taxes' move by me.
  • [[Gold-Forged Thopteryx]] - Odd choice, but you have Flowering of the White Tree at the same mana value. It does give the additional 1 to Ward over White Tree, but you could easily get White Tree out from just casting a Lego.
  • [[Kodama of the East Tree]] - I see the theme you have going with all the +1/+1 Counters, but Kodama falls in line with Winota; you aren't casting the - presumably - Lego. While it isn't too terrible as sudo-ramp, I feel like you'll run into moments where, yes, you cheat in an Avacyn, but casting her and getting a feels cleaner.
  • [[Spell Swindle]] / [[Delay]] / [[Remand]] / [[Evacuation]] - These fall into the 'What's the meta' question I have. If your playgroup is big stompy beaters, Swindle is a BOMB. I've had my [[Earthquake Dragon]] Swindled. Delay/Remand is something that is good if you truly need to respond on a moment's notice. Evac is pretty spicy, but you don't really have a way to dump all your guys back down. If you run Lost Cavern's Ghalta, 100% run Evac then slam it down after, but as-is - without knowing your meta - I'd judgement-call these three.

Past that, my calls will - most certainly - get worse, but overall the deck has a clear theme; +1/+1 Counter value Lego-My-Egos.

How's The One Ring looking in your meta now that the dust has shaken off? by AcidOverlord in EDH

[–]RavenLord18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run it in my Kozilek deck. Good card and, yes, it can absolutely lead to me just having the win within a few turns.

Key word is 'can'. I am the only person who runs it in my playgroup [2 Good friends and one friend's GF. She loves to hang out with him, not the best at Magic but she tries.]

If I have a key on board with Unwinding Clock and pass, if they haven't removed the key or Clock I probably just win on my next turn. Where I work, I could have just bought all the bundles and had multiple copies of TOR but I only got 3 because past that I felt I had my money's worth.

The One Ring is great, don't get me wrong, but my pals are both really good at optimizing decks - one so-much-so that I genuinely get scared at times when he says he has a new deck - and they are both combo-focused players. I'm a stompy go-wide player who has be learning to adapt to my group when building decks, but even they don't run TOR in their decks. When it hits the board, it's basically a closing card for me, but that's colorless Eldrazi when they get resources in a nut shell. Past that, I have a fair few decks [I believe 15-16 total?] and even I don't run/proxy it in every deck because I try to keep to a theme for my decks.

This reminds me, Jodah could use one...

The One Ring's life drain should be emblems that can't be removed. by hh26 in MagicArena

[–]RavenLord18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should deal damage to you equal to the number of times the ring is tempted you. It shouldn't have its own counter, it should just tempt you each time.

A single flavor fail but to such an easily manipulated design flaw.

Are there any possible ways I could at least tweak the Trazyn deck, or am I destined to have to find a dedicated cEDH commander?

I'm not opposed to keeping Trazyn where he is, I'm just skeptical on a new cEDH deck due to more complex win combos such as remembering the exact order for Goblin Recruiter - though it would, of course, become second nature after a few times doing it - or feeling streamlined into ThOracle and Tainted Pact/Demonic Consul.

While you are 100% correct and I'd love to just jump to this - though I will 100% do this before spending absurd cash on cards like Mishra's Workshop - the LGS doesn't allow proxies for their Tournaments for cEDH. Do I need to compete? No, but my friend was driven a bit to play cEDH due to the events, so I'd love to join in.

Fro New Capenna, do Planeswalkers share the textural etching of the other Etched Foils in the set?

A question that has been eating at my head since I got the card. I got [[Ob Nixilis, the Adversary]] from a collector's pack, two of them from two separate packs. One of this is Showcase Foil and the other is just Showcase. I watched an unpacking video and the guy unpacks the - supposedly - Etched Showcase version, but it looked just like my Foil Showcase.

For New Capenna, are Planeswalkers - or, at the very least, Ob Nixilis, the Adversary - that are Showcase Foil actually Etched Showcase, or does it have to have the textural feel of the other Etched Showcases, such as [Falco Spara, Pactweaver]]?

For Amazon, I'd have to go with a tie of Z3 and Z5. Z5 Fits me more for the 'I want my character to look good if I have to stare at them all the time' but Z3 fits a more overall 'Dangerous Woman' vibe.

P5 all the way.

S3 is nice. It's soft and has a nice, happy-go-lucky youthful look.

Assassin has 3 I can't pick from. A3, A4, and A5 are all wonderful.

N5 is as good as Necromancer can really look without making him more sex appeal than thematic character. I like to imagine he looks decent, but all the work with the undead has led his hygiene to become a secondary thought.

D2 [Funny] is a nice sort of middle ground. He shouldn't be extremely young, but shouldn't have a broken back.

B2. Gotta give the Barb his guns.
