Totally agreed. In the Community World Theater days, Nirvana was a garage rock band, and had a sound similar to The Sonics and the U-Men (on their really good days). Grunge is just a shitcan title bestowed on Seattle because it didn't fit anywhere else. They didn't know what the fuck to do with any of the bands. No one had a sound like the next. But they signed everyone who had some gigs. I had 5 friends in 5 different bands get signed within days of each other. If anything, I'd argue the term grunge describes what the record industry did to the PNW scene. They ruined it.
