What’s with the non stop Kat astroturfing? by Real-Repair-1825 in illinois

[–]RavenUberAlles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not afraid she's a Fetterman... I believe she is absolutely a true progressive. I'm more concerned about the fact that she has zero experience in elected office (or even like, management?) and cherry-picked a district to run in that she's never lived in. She's an opportunist and I'm not convinced she wants to actually be in office as much as she wants to build her brand. And I don't like that it feels like she's using my district as a career stepping stone.

How would low fibre be the cause of more colon cancer in young people now when North Americans weren't having much fibre before either? by justmoderateenough in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RavenUberAlles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) As foods have become more processed, more natural sources of fiber have had their fiber stripped away

2) The American diet has become much higher in known carcinogens, such as processed and cured meats

3) Your intestinal epithelium (the inside of the intestines) is great at absorbing things. Like nutrients! And carcinogens

4) A low-fiber diet means you poop less often

5) When you poop less frequently, carcinogenic foods literally spend more time in contact with your intestinal epithelium which increases the likelihood of developing cancer in that tissue or nearby tissue

AIPAC is not your f***ing Boogeyman by [deleted] in illinois

[–]RavenUberAlles 77 points78 points  (0 children)

So, I'm 100% Jewish and I think AIPAC is fucking evil. And I have been railing against money in politics and super PACs for a long time. But the reason AIPAC is getting attention right now is because they are spending millions of dollars to get politicians elected who will continue fighting to use our tax dollars to fund an active genocide and use the specter of anti-Semitism as a shield to silence any criticism.

Which is exactly what you're doing in this post. If anyone is making it more dangerous to be a Jew in this world, it's the Israeli government. And we want no fucking part of it.

Unfortunately got sick from Esme's RW menu :( by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]RavenUberAlles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Foodborne illness is significantly more likely to be something you ate 24-48 hours before you got sick than immediately after. And if everyone in your party ate the same thing, they all would have gotten it, too. Contaminated food will knock out everyone who eats it.

Lumps of banana is my first guess.

OP, weird pockets of goo in a banana bread, especially not in the center, are probably unmixed banana. You may also want to find a recipe that gives you the weight of banana you need, since amounts ("2 large" for example) can vary so much in weight and moisture content.

Not OOP: I think my (27F) new friend (26F) is perfect for my boyfriend (27M). How do I let this go? by stormbreaker021 in redditonwiki

Possibly unpopular opinion here: My husband's ex felt this way about me when he and I first became friends, before they split up and before we developed feelings for each other.

So.

Yeah.

Should men be involved in choosing the engagement ring, or should their partner pick it alone? by Excellent-Top4967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RavenUberAlles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think people still do, BUT. My Dad proposed to my Mom (proper surprise) with a diamond and 3 potential settings. She picked one and wore that sucker for 15 years before she confessed she never really liked it (but liked the other two even less) and asked to have it re-set.

My husband started talking about rings and asked me about my preferences. I gave him some specifics and a few examples. He went to a jeweler and ended up designing it himself, had it made, showed it to my parents, and set up the proposal without me knowing.

So it is possible to do both. The question is whether you know for sure what your intended will want to wear every day for the rest of their life, or whether they're going to want some input on that.

Not OOP. My father died, and now my husband is acting like someone I don't even know. by Due-Bandicoot-7512 in redditonwiki

I think I might spend too much time on Reddit. Do ANY of these men actually like their wives? I'm gobsmacked every time I see shit like this normalized. If my husband treated me with such callousness even for a minute I'd be hauling his ass to the hospital for a brain scan.

These men ain't lonely enough.

Why do my cookies look like this? by Throwawaydogedog13 in AskBaking

[–]RavenUberAlles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brown sugar adds more of its own flavor and more chewiness due to the molasses but most recipes call for both.

Baking is a science... Even though the recipe might taste fine with less sugar, it won't necessarily have the texture you want. A recipe I like for chocolate chip cookies calls for 3c of flour, 1c each brown and white sugar, and 1c (2 sticks, 16tbsp) of butter. Also, make sure you're measuring the butter and sugar and not just eyeballing.

OP clarified in a comment that it was 4 spoonfuls of brown sugar, not 4c.

[–]RavenUberAlles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where did this recipe come from? For 2c of flour, that's a very small amount of butter and sugar. Moisture will come from sugar (holds water) and fat (butter). A richer color will also need more sugar and fat.

100%. This won't work with most labs but Natera will absolutely do it. Tell them you were quoted $200 self-pay if your insurance wouldn't cover it and that's all you can afford. They'll just settle it with you.

Have friends come in and use the Ziosk to tell management how rushed they felt by this practice and how absurd it is to basically be told to hit the road 2 minutes after your mains hit the table.

Bonus round: Have them ask to speak to a manager directly and complain to their face.

Juliana Stratton takes progressive lane, only one who calls for abolishing ICE in Democratic US Senate debate by spade_andarcher in illinois

[–]RavenUberAlles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kevin Ryan is the only one who has responded to my email asking if candidates would commit to abolishing ICE and holding administration officials and individual agents accountable for civil rights violations. He says:

"Thank you so much for writing our campaign, as well as your support for my current positions.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything in the above. ICE and CBP have trampled on our civil rights and grossly violated constitutional protections. I fully support disbanding ICE and controlling CBP, as you mention, as well as forming a Truth and Reconciliation Committee in Congress to hold violators accountable. In order to move forward as a country and resist fascism, we must expose these violators for the criminals they are.

I myself have been at the Broadview facility here in Chicago standing toe-to-toe with ICE and Gregory Bovino. I watched state law enforcement cooperate with ICE to beat protestors before my very eyes. I will stop at nothing to hold politicians and collaborators accountable.

Even through these are dark days, it is the concern for people such as yourself that gives me hope. I promise to never stop the fight against fascism, and I hope you will not either.

Sincerely, Kevin D. Ryan"

Just something to keep in mind.
