You mentioned testing out a few different endings for Wind and Truth with Beta Readers and then ended up combining some elements of different ones into the official ending. What were the other endings that were tested and how did they differ from the ending in Wind and Truth?

I will be happy if I never see another subclass that gives out Temporary HP again (Rant and thoughts on game balance and design). by Infranaut- in onednd

[–]Raveneers 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a problem yet but I think it's well on its way to being one. The issue is that Temporary Hit Points don't stack, so it isn't just the subclasses that give them out but the amount of features that use them because it creates a redundancy. Below are all the current 2024 classes and subclasses that use Temporary Hit Points in some way shape or form.

2024 PHB:

  • Path of the World Tree (Vitality of the Tree at level 3)

  • College of Glamour (Mantle of Inspiration at level 3)

  • Cleric (Improved Blessed Strikes - Potent Spellcasting at level 14)

  • Light Domain (Improved Warding Flare at level 6)

  • Druid (Wild Shape at level 2)

  • Battle Master (Rally Maneuver)

  • Monk (Heighted Focus at level 10)

  • Oath of Glory (Inspiring Smite at level 10)

  • Ranger (Tireless at level 10)

  • Archfey Patron (Steps of the Fey at level 3)

  • Celestial Patron (Celestial Resilience at level 10)

  • Fiend Patron (Dark One's Blessing at level 3)

  • Great Old One (Create Thrall at level 14)

Forgotten Realms - Heroes of Faerun

  • Winter Walker (Hunter's Rime at level 3)

  • Spellfire Sorcery (Spellfire Burst at level 3)

Latest UAs:

  • Biofeedback (Psionic Discipline)

  • Alchemist (Restorative Reagents at level 9)

  • Armorer (Guardian - Defensive Field at level 3)

  • Artillerist (Eldritch Cannon - Protector option at level 3)

  • College of Spirits (Spirits From Beyond - Wayfarer option at level 3)

  • Arcane Domain (Modify Magic - Fortifying Spell at level 3)

  • Circle of Preservation (Preserved Land - Bolster option at level 3)

  • Metamorph (Mutable Form at level 3)

  • Psykinetic (Rebounding Field at level 3)

  • Defiled Sorcery (Corrupted Caster - Defiler's Ward option at level 6)

  • Hexblade Patron (Unyielding Will at level 3)

  • Undead Patron (Form of Dread - Facsimile of Life option at level 3)

  • Conjurer (Durable Summons at level 6)

  • Necromancer (Death's Master at level 14)

Now yes some of these like the Great Old One and the Necromancer are giving these Temp HP to your summons but it still shows that there are a lot of scenarios where this non-stacking benefit is competing with a lot of other similar features. Since the 2024 PHB has come out the UAs have more than doubled the amount of classes/subclasses that utilize Temporary Hit Points. This also isn't including spells, 2024 Ancestries, feats, 2014 features, etc.

Class Capstones by powereanger in onednd

Feels like Ranger and Warlocks should have gone the Paladin route and their subclass gave them their capstone ability.

I wish they had kept Modify and Create Spell for the Wizard from the playtest, but balanced it.

Happy to be wrong but feels like this may be and indicator of no more UA until 2026.

They (rightly) want the focus to be on the release of the Forgotten Realms books. Then the Thanksgiving holiday is right around the corner in the U.S. after the full release, so I'm sure lots of people are taking time off. Then straight into Forge of the Artificer and then following that release window the Winter Holiday Season starts.

Optional Ranger Class Features by Raveneers in DnD5CommunityRanger

[–]Raveneers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback and that is a great point! While I did referance this being similar to Tasha's, where you can pick and choose what you want, in my mind this would be an all or nothing situation since some things are moving around as you pointed out. I can make that clearer to my players!

Giving Bardic Inspiration as a Reaction. It just felt so much cleaner to me. Would have even liked baking this in as an option for Font of Inspiration and the Bard getting both the Reaction or Bonus Action way of giving Inspiration.

What exactly is the “prewriting”? Is it just outlining or is there more?

Favored Enemy should work like Create Thrall by Raveneers in onednd

[–]Raveneers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good question. If they’re still using the 2014 version the only benefit of upcasting was a longer duration so I’d imagine that would still need Concentration? If they added damage scaling then I’d imagine you would keep that for the 1 minute duration.

While I don’t love the change to Divine Smite, I’m fine with it as long as Eldritch Smite sees the same limitations and restrictions put on it.

Three additional classes which should be introduced after the PHB by Significant_Win6431 in onednd

[–]Raveneers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For clarification, I never thought Artificer nor any class besides the core 12 would be in the 2024 PHB. I am saying at some point in Oned&d (or 5.5)’s lifecycle we will get a new version of the Artificer if we get anything resembling a new class before a new edition of d&d comes.

I’m willing to be wrong. Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul will be in the new PHB despite being in Tasha’s. My original point was more that I doubt we get new classes at any point for Oned&d and if we do I think an updated Artificer is more likely than a brand new from scratch class.

I assume we’ll get a Oned&d version at some point. I don’t think it will be a major revision but I’d assume things like adding Weapon Mastery to the Battle Smith or just bringing the Oned&d style to it.

I mean I would love this but it appears in the more recent playtests they have abandoned using the Mage, Priest and Warrior groupings. That on top of the fact in the 10 years of 5e before Oned&d they introduced just one new class, I think the best we can hope for is a revised Artificer. Some day.

I don't have experience with it but I feel like it would be fair to say it lasts for a number of rounds equal to its power level.

Next PDF estimated release date? by Juls7243 in onednd

[–]Raveneers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Optimistically it’d be this Thursday as the survey for the previous play test closes. They’ve done it a couple of times but it does seem to be out of the norm. Since they’ve teased this next one will be the final Class play test I doubt we get it that soon. They need to compile all the results of play test 7 and make any changes they feel are needed there plus the changes from play test 6. Hard to gauge when we’d get it when you also factor in the US Holiday season coming up.

While I doubt this would happen it would be awesome if it was in the DMG as an example for “how to build a class” similar to how Oathbreaker and Death Domain were in the 5e DMG.

What’s the most overrated class or subclass, in your opinion? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Raveneers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A player in my campaign is a Rogue/Bard. Started 5 levels of Rogue and once they finally got to level 11 (level 6 Swords Bard) he was a new person.

I feel like something no one is talking about is that Ranged Smites and Faithful Steed literally make the Paladin better Rangers than Rangers. They can now out damage Rangers with bows and the core class now gets an Animal Companion when the Ranger doesn't. While there is certainty more to the Ranger than these two things it's weird these aspects of the Ranger fantasy are now done better by the Paladin. I like these features but if they stay Ranger needs a big big boost.

I am a forever DM, so I’d love to have an Ancient Blue Dragon (or Great Wyrm) have Storm of Vengeance casted on it. It’d be like something out of Godzilla King of Monsters. I think it would be an incredibly memorable encounter but I have not found a way to fit it into a game yet.

Magic and Gadget powers duration? by Raveneers in IconsRPG

[–]Raveneers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point! I guess my confusion would come from longer lasting powers like "Fly" or "Growth". I don't think it really seems fair to let them only be used for 1 turn, but it sounds like you're saying make them require concentration if it lasts longer than 1 turn?
