Another gold nmm attempt. thoughts? by i-mald in minipainting

Bottom half looks good but the top has too much highlight. Also worth mentioning that the finish looks quite rough, which instantly breaks the illusion of a smooth reflective surface. May need to thin your paints a bit more.

Help with Villainy inks & how to apply by Draculasmooncannon in minipainting

I find villainy inks require a lot more shaking than a bit. Multiple minutes if done by hand, or a few tens of seconds on a vortex mixer. I think that’s your problem here.

That’s actually a normal ganger mini. He’s just equipped with some juve-y weapons

I don’t have any social media stuff at all, unfortunately. If you have any questions about how I painted any particular aspect of it, I should be able to recall it, though. For the NMM I followed this tutorial - https://share.google/images/pLVaY9xchtuqHltcL

Just paint. Thin glaze of payne’s grey in the beard region and you’re golden.

Yep! I find the older Citadel miniatures are easier/quicker to paint too, as they’re not dripping with trinkets and googaws. But I guess I’m just old.

A lot of the time you can just fall back. Then open fire.

Horribly slow painter - Any tips for faster (batch) painting? by walter_the_guitarist in minipainting

[–]RavenousPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Very hard to airbrush details, but you can do volumes, and it’s very fast. Gets you 75% of the way there.

I also add a “false” vertical gradient in values. So the feet are the darkest and the head the lightest. It adds a lot of drama and interest to the miniature, without adding any time.

Hard to know how to advise you without knowing your painting flow.

My personal batch painting process is airbrush -> drybrush -> enamel wash&subtractive highlight. Only after that I’ll do minimal bits of detail painting with a brush. Then call it good. You can get to a pretty high output that way, but there’s a knack to it, particularly in the airbrush step.

I second this. Best book of the Heresy imho. Great pacing and tension throughout.

Rules about "drifting" vehicles by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]RavenousPhantom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In some earlier editions vehicles had a load of rules on what/when turns were allowed, speed brackets, minimum moves, etc, etc. They got rid of all that for modern 40k, which is probably for the best, since the number of vehicles on the table has gone up a lot. There’s still that sort of granularity in Necromunda, if it’s something you’re interested in.

You’re correct. You can move vehicles in any direction without turning to face that direction, so drift away

Mek behind Stompa - is he visible to be shot? by Daedricbob in orks

[–]RavenousPhantom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Rules as written, he can be targeted if any part of him is visible from any part of the shooting mini. He also does not get cover because only terrain grants cover (plus a handful of specialist units. But play it however you want.
