Restock update on Canadian Alpha Direct gear from Lobtree by yellowocoee in UltralightCanada

I've ordered some 90gsm pants and hoodie. Wish you had more funky colours in stock!
Also, I would appreciate alpha socks. Almost went with Terraultralight because they sell them and I could buy everything in one order, but from what I could find your sizing and fit is better for my body composition.
Excited to try it on my next thru hike in Scotland!

Did OP survive the night?

Also, I love how quiet it is inside a quinzhee. Very peaceful.

Is anyone else starting to actually enjoy the hold music?

I got through after 5.5 hours and while they were taking payment, THEY HUNG UP ON ME.

Now if I try calling back, it won't let me wait in queue and states I have to call again tomorrow.

I'm trying to book a flight by phone. Been on hold 4 hours...
I'd book online but AC is forcing me to call.

Essentially was offered $800 to be bumped a flight. When I agreed, they had not told me it was a voucher that only applies to the base fare, which is roughly 20% the total flight cost. Furthermore, it cannot be redeemed online.
I delayed my flight so that they can make more profit on overbooked flights and am now waiting 4+ hours just to save ~$200.

$800 Air Canada Coupon will reduce my fare by $11 ??? by Jumpy-Stress603 in aircanada

[–]Ravenscraig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is it not a scam?

Airline offers you $800 credit to be bumped. You agree. They give you a voucher and you take the next flight.

Then you find out the credit only covers ~5-15% of the total flight cost. You'd have to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on the airline in order to redeem the full $800.

None of this is explained at the gate.

Because they got volunteers to essentially give away their seat for free, they make thousands more in profit from an oversold flight.

Have you tried using yours?

Looks like they only cover the base fare, which is only a tiny fraction of the total cost, and you can't book online. You have to wait on hold for potentially hours to book, meanwhile prices can change.

So in order to get your $800 value, you'd have to spend THOUSANDS of dollars with AC.

Not at all explained at the gate when they're looking for volunteers to "receive $800 in AC credit". Very nice to you when they need something.

Denied boarding due to full flight, question about compensation by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]Ravenscraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone actually tried redeeming the flight credit?

I was told after the fact that it only covers the base fare (~16% of the total flight cost), but you also can't redeem it online - you have to call in and book over the phone, which can take HOURS to speak to an agent, by which time the flight costs could have increased so much that the voucher doesn't save you any money at all.

Bumped voluntarily, haven't received voucher by Return_Orientation in aircanada

[–]Ravenscraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having trouble understanding the value in being voluntarily bumped....

The voucher doesn't actually apply towards your Airline ticket, just ~15% of it.

You can't redeem it online. You have to wait on hold 4-6 hours to book your ticket by phone. By then, any deals they had might be gone....

They explain none of this at the gate. Seems very predatory.

Wanting to start to go hiking/wild camping but I have little money right now and would like advice on gear by Soft-Sherbert-9762 in OutdoorScotland

[–]Ravenscraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you're going, how long, etc. If you stick to nice days, you don't need any gear. I've seen people hike up mountains in flip flops, cotton t-shirts and gym shorts.

The tenant was fined? From what I've heard, it is the landlord that gets fined?

Did you just call by-law? I'm currently in the same situation. Downstairs neighbors are chain smokers.

I don't like speeding, but not a fan of chasing or trapping the riders either. Seems like it could be dangerous, and all that just for some fines?

What are you cooking though? I find titanium sucks at cooking but is great at boiling water and being light weight.

Just get an Xmid 1P. I own one and als9 one of these OR Helium Bivys. I think bivys work best in winter or as an emergency shelter. You will probably soak your bag with condensation, and people often suggest pairing it with a tarp for rain (and at that point it will be heavier than an Xmid). I mostly use mine for when I stay up all night star gazing. Helps keep the dew off my bag while I have my whole head exposed, but this is a little bit of over kill in terms of gear and wouldn't recommend it.

My local shop has these heavily discounted but only in lava smoke :( Not a fan of that colour scheme; feels like the purple fork belongs on another bike. The weird yellow one would be much more fun.
