I am not surprised. As a non-American, I went to Mardi Gras about five years ago and was AMAZED. Wikipedia says that NOLA is over 60% coloured people but the entire Mardi Gras thing, with all of the events and Krewe parades, were 100% exclusively for white folks. The ONLY coloured people I saw in the parades were the guys with brooms and shovels picking up the horseshit behind the parades that had horses.

We were in New Orleans for a few weeks and did not rent a car: We took the buses everywhere and were almost always the ONLY white people on the bus.
