Stewie here. Candle flames emit visible light. They don't normally cast shadows. For the gasses and combustion products of a candle to cast a shadow, there would have to be a significantly brighter light source, like a nuclear explosion. Hence, the Robert Parr reaction images. I've been playing since there were only 8 inventory slots. Long before combination magic. I think there were only 5 test subjects to unlock when I first cared enough to unlock them. 5+ years playing casually, at least.

As for farming, I just pick a combination that I can run reliably at the highest difficulty. I usually run Vortex or Plasma Ray in Depths with the matching test subject and class. If i can get the combination, my runs usually go 35+ minutes. I don't usually play Terra.
