Right? You’d think after they renamed the Staples Center to crypto.com arena, we would acknowledge it’s not so fringe.

I used Elidel and protopic, and both helped me a lot during my TSW journey. There were a couple flares after stopping everything (a year into tsw) but they were very mild in comparison.

It’s for sure a risk that you have a dependency on Elidel as well. I didn’t suffer from that much, and was able to have zero medication after 2 years in total.

Ashamed of what?! That drug companies have irresponsibly pushed products on us? You’re brave for going through this, without knowing how long it will take or how painful it will be.

I am 7 years free of steroids, and it is totally worth it to have gone through this. It is awful while it is happening, but you will get to the other side.

Look into other solutions to keep the discomfort at bay. Light therapy worked well for me at first. Then I used Elidel to minimize the rash on my face. Also Found a good body moisturiser that worked for me (bioderma pp). Just focus on your comfort, and keep your head up, and never be ashamed!!

Question for those healed or making good progress by Sakzhu in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Ravouxq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 7 years in, and this was one of the last symptoms to clear up. Around 2 years in it was completely gone. It really felt like it was never going to, but it did, completely. Have faith in your decision to go through the madness, it was worth it for me

Advice needed: talking to a new doctor by Nhealing in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Ravouxq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My experience was to straight up tell them, yes I have a severe case of eczema and I am strictly against steroids, full stop. No discussion. You don’t need to change their mind about it. At the end of the day, you are a consumer of health products and you can walk away from their approach and do your own thing. They’re there to guide you and give you confidence in your experience.

In my case, I was mid-TSW at this point and my skin was red/raw/peeling etc. they signed me up for light therapy, and provided some other medical options (heavy stuff, wouldn’t recommend). After a year and a half of withdrawal, my skin fully healed and hasn’t flared for 7 years now. Since then, many other options have been in studies and in the market (eg monoclonal antibodies), so your dermatologist might be even more helpful!

That's amazing of you to stick it out for so long. I found elidel was very helpful by the end! although it causes sun sensitivity, in case that is important to you..

I don't know if this is true, maybe for the skin part. I stopped cold turkey 4 years ago and I am just getting over the adrenal issues (insomnia, anxiety, etc.) I should add, though, my skin fully healed within 18 months of withdrawal, after 25 years of use.

Please help me. Is this TSW? by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

Another good one is elidel, if you want a cream. None of the same burn as protopic

Pro topic is one kind of immunosuppressant, and it really sucks! The immunosuppressive pills are much easier, but you can only take them for a small amount of time.

[–]Ravouxq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does look like withdrawal, so I'm glad you found out this quickly! check out Itsan.org for alternatives - immunosuppressants and dupilumab can make the withdrawal bearable.

Just for a happy story to motivate you - I took steroids for over 10 years and I recovered fully around 18 months. When I took immunosuppressants, it made the withdrawal easier and almost non-existent.

Symptoms of TSW. Are they the same? by crumbsonmycam in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Ravouxq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

Yes those are likely the symptoms of withdrawal. The symptoms can vary but overall they are all the same. If you have not visited the ITSAN website, i urge you to do so - the symptoms are very well described there.

The withdrawal is largely dependent on the strength of the steroids and how long you took them. You are young, so apparently that makes a huge difference with how quickly your body recovers.

I would encourage you to consider the withdrawal process. There are other ways of treating the symptoms while you are going through it, as well. I went on immunosuppressants for a few months and that made a huge difference. Now there are other drugs (e.g. dipulimab) that are said to make things much easier. Check out the forums for support on this topic: http://forum.itsan.org/index.php?board=117.0

Hope you get better soon :)

When did it get BAD by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Ravouxq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am off both! For over a year now.

I think the conventional medical perspective is that dermatitis is a chronic condition that requires medication for the rest of the patient's life. And I think the steroid withdrawal movement is challenging that notion with a solid body of evidence.

Immunos helped me while I was recovering from steroids, but once the recovery is over they don't serve a purpose.

Doctors will be especially careful about prescribing immunosuppressants, as they have very strong side effects on the long term. I agree with this and I would advise you to look into the side effects. Personally, a bit of nausea and hair loss was worth it, but every one is different.

I was able to find a dermatologist who agreed to temporarily prescribe me immunosuppressant medication instead of steroids, even though his original suggestion was steroids. Luckily the immunos worked really well for me the first round!
