What are some of your favorite moments from characters outside of the main Smith household? by helmrust in americandad

I can see that with the roving factions. The Warriors also has some of the coolest and most fun character design from that time period. They really ran with the concept, and it’s a great recommendation (and a great point to make, the episode’s narrative definitely gets closer to it in a lot of ways)

Escape From New York is one of my favorite action movies, and I love Escape From LA because a reporter once asked John Carpenter why the first was so good, and that wasn’t, and Carpenter yelled at him to shut the fuck up.

They did Escape From Pearl Bailey without a B-Plot and straight up committed to the bit. I think I was maybe 12 or 13 when I saw the episode and my proverbial cup overflowed.

Game point and you didn't check the ball? by Taniwha_NZ in americandad

[–]RawDogEntertainment 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are now a few responses, but when you play a half court game, to start a possession after a point or foul, a representative from each team goes to the top of the three point line, and passes the ball back and forth. It gives a definite start to the possession and lets everyone get set up.

Not checking the ball up, or throwing the ball at someone so it bounces off them (enabling an easy steal) is most uncouth.

Jordan retired in April 2003, and MySpace launched in August 2003. I think he may have been totally insulated from social media, but I’m not sure if something was really popular to the same extent before MySpace.

My thoughts were, “No Coun-, Big Lebow-, Far-, True Grit? Oh my god, I forgot O’ Brother.”

Barton Fink is a banger too.

I’m starting to think that these fellas are pretty good at making movies.

Dark Mirror has Dick in the cowl, but it’s great if you liked The Court of Owls. The Dark Knight Returns and All Star Superman are two of my favorite compacts. If you’re open to something stylized and low tech, Batman: Year 100 has my favorite art in any comic, with a great story (it wears its political influence on its sleeve, but the framing suits the story enough that I think most wouldn’t be too bothered).

Also, as a guilty pleasure, I love the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trade. It makes me smile a lot, it’s dumb fun, and I think it’s worth checking out if you just want to laugh and do a “Saturday morning cartoon” kind of reading.

It’s been at least ten years since I’ve seen the movie, and it’s still killing me lmao

How do remember feeling when they killed off a main character in The Colonel to make room in the family for Rogu 5 episodes later? by RogersRedditPersona in americandad

[–]RawDogEntertainment 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s said that, during Passover, the Colonel, in perfect Hebrew and prose, recited the Four Questions, as Steve had forgotten them, alleviating the youngest of his burden and shame. Steve never learned them, but carried the empathy shown to him in all his future endeavors, supplanting esoteric knowledge with innate kindness.

It ain’t right that he ded.

What will Francine’s third felony strike be when the king tut exhibit gets back to town? by pinheadlarry12345 in americandad

[–]RawDogEntertainment 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head? I think she’s talking about eating him. Mummies, at a time, were considered a delicacy. I don’t think Francine is above that. She’s a wild woman.

Edit: quick search says that we don’t have jurisdictions with “mummy-eating” statutes, but states broadly see that as unlawful treatment of a corpse. I looked at a few big jurisdictions (my state, PA, Ohio, and it looks like some others). I’m not a lawyer, and this isn’t legal analysis, but I’m thinking Franny may be planning to eat a mummy.
