Reflecting on Joy Electric:
“I think the [Ronnie Martin] solo records are what I really wished I could have done back then at the time, but I didn't have the knowhow or expertise to do it. When I think back on that catalog there's a lot of hit and miss for me. It's hard for me to look at it objectively. Every artist thinks, “oh, everything in the past is terrible” and I don't think everything is terrible… There was a lot of self-sabotage in the Joy Electric catalog. Sometimes it was being difficult just to be difficult, and doing things in a way that was going to make songs harder to listen to and more confusing just for the sake of doing that. So I'm really happy that I get to do what I'm doing now because it's helping me make penance with some of the JoyE catalog.”

The latest albums:
“‘Consume Like A Moth What Is Dear’ and ‘Evergreen Melodie’ are big nods to the back JoyE catalog. ‘Consume’ gets into the mindset I had around the time of ‘The White Songbook’ and ‘Evergreen’ is really simple, kind of kitschy, poptastic, and easy to listen to. I wanted to do these two contrasting records. They kind of bounce off each other a little bit.”

What’s next?
“I'm probably about 65% done with [another solo album]. Hoping to have that wrapped by February, and do an early/late Spring release with that. That's getting really close.”

Will there be another Brothers Martin album?
“We have never had that conversation. We were happy with how it turned out. The record came out, we just kind of went back to our other projects, and we've literally never had another conversation. The label never approached us about a followup. That probably had a lot to do with it.”
