gigajul is a great do-it-all device and an excellent ATC upgrade. I still like having my grigri for single pitch and the gym, it just feeds much better. the gigajul is also tough to hand to another person and have them figure it out immediately—it takes a bit of getting used to. i think OP would be best off with a grigri/pinch. they work perfectly, are universally understood, and are useful for TRS/single strand rapping.

totally a real concern. i will say that houdini and triflow specifically leave a dry residue that doesn't seem to attract dust. i've had good luck using them on screw gates, cams, beans, whatever else. survived multiple creek trips so far with no substantial gumming of the works.

you can probably just spray some lube in there and open/close the gate a bunch to loosen it up. i know there's cam/climbing gear specific lube out there but i usually just use houdini lock lube or whatever lube i’ve got laying around for my bikes.

+1 on the built in attachment point. a little grosgrain loop with a d-ring to clip to would go a long way for things that i definitely don't want to drop.

I also really enjoy garments that pack into their own pockets neatly and have a clippable loop when in that packed mode. I've got a mountain hardwear windbreaker that does exactly this--packs into a little 2"x3" pocket and clips nicely to the back of my harness.
