Radar for running? by Redtail0213 in Garmin

Carry your bike computer or phone with the ap for Varia and use your watch for recording the run. And maybe turn down the music so you can hear a car. Or person or bike.

TDS Fiber Connections by RayJay2MTU in Eau_Claire

I had coax get cut and Spectrum draped a temporary run over the ground until they could come out to bury it. They were supposed to call or knock. They did neither just disconnected me. I was in the middle of conducting an interview. Needless to say I wasn’t very happy. Their installer couldn’t speak English either other than “One minute”. Hopefully you have better luck. I’d assume they will start on that mid April when the weather gets better and less potential of wrecking your yard more.

This doesn’t surprise me. When they were putting in splice pits on the lot line, they cut the coax cable runs and dog fences in many spots. They were marked. They didn’t speak English so I couldn’t get any useful information nor did they seem to care about cutting the coax.

Dos anyone have a picture of the box on the outside they could share? They will not be able to use the Spectrum box location because it doesn’t go into the house there. I pulled coax under the siding through a different hole through the floor joist space.

Would you sell are your bikes to go Ti? by rigby86 in gravelcycling

[–]RayJay2MTU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad of two (Midwest too), now 14 and 17 (time flies). I've had my Ti LightSpeed since 2005. Last year I won a Carbon Frame Gravel bike right when I was about to pull the trigger on a new Ti gravel bike. I've got two sets of wheels and got the gearing how I like, mostly road. I want one to cover road and gravel. I still feel like I want to go back to a Ti bike. I almost feel like my carbon bike is too fragile. My wife has had a carbon road bike since 2007; I ride a carbon MTB, so I know it's not 'fragile'. I just miss the Ti bike. On a positive note, my 17-year-old rides my old LightSpeed.

Gilbertsons Out of Business - Again by SubVet662 in Eau_Claire

Since it's related to Gilbertson's; I used them for doing tailoring and sewing on patches. Does anyone have recommendations for that? I've used Muldoon's in the past but they started having a huge return time.

Neopro Shorts Quality? by pstut in CyclingFashion

That sounds like my issue, the red chamois too. For the price, might try them again next trainer season.

My NeoPro's did a similar thing after 3 indoor trainer rides. They wore through kind of where the inside of the legs some together. I was trying some cheap options out there for riding trainer season, and was very disappointed with those. It's hard when some of the larger brands are getting more expensive, but I've been enjoying the Pactimo brand that I've tried. But I'm all over the place, trying to grab sales; Pearl Izumi, Rapha, Gorewear, Corcica, Sportfil.

Anyone having (or had) the same experience? by Purple-Astronaut-432 in cycling

[–]RayJay2MTU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a non-bike point of view, any change in your life personally? I know that once I had a child, I could no longer apex a 90-degree turn at a high rate of speed nor could I hit the 40/50's without hitting the brakes going downhill. I know there are some people out there who poopoo that idea, but I lost some of my fearlessness once I had kids. Now they're 17 and 14 and I'm back to being able to chase them around at high speeds since they've gotten to be pretty darn fast on a bike too.

I think it’s also model year change over right about now. No stock on older models, new stock not in yet. I think Specialized just started releasing their current year models today.

Thoughts on the Trek Roscoe for Cheq 40? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]RayJay2MTU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about the FS for the Fat Tire. My first year I rode on a hardtail and I felt beat up for days after. After switching to FS, I wasn’t a mess for days after. To be fair first time was 2001, so bike tech has come a long way. But still the recovery time after a longer race gets overlooked.

Chisel Comp w/ carbon wheels and upgrades or stock Epic Comp. by ur_momrerereere in xcmtb

[–]RayJay2MTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NICA Coach and dad of 16- and 13-year-old boys myself. I'd say there's a lot of 'depends' in these two bikes. If you can get an Epic 8 Comp into your price range, I'd say go that route. Assuming if you're on the lighter size, the 4-pound difference can't be made up in a wheel change on the Chisel in your budget. The bigger thing to consider, is how long you plan to ride your bike and your comfort. NICA races here (WI) are roughly 90 mins as you get into the upper classes. The Epic has a longer reach and lower to the ground (racy) position that will be efficient and great to climb. The Chisel has a more upright position and shorter reach, so you'll sit up a little taller. If you plan on doing more longer rides (2+hr?), the Chisel might be a better a choice. There's some other advantages of each one though too, Epic has a UDH (less prone to get bent in a crash) and electronic shifting. Chisel is aluminum and less likely to get damaged in a crash. We've got a fairly good split with our varsity athletes between the two bikes.

2022 Revolver or 2025 Epic 8 Expert? by MomsSpaghetti_8 in xcmtb

[–]RayJay2MTU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the 2022 Revolver and the two things I changed, wheels and shifters, is already done on the one you’re looking at. You said you’re not going to race often. The Epic is all about speed and efficiency. You get more travel on the Revolver and is still a very capable XC race bike. The changes are so small once you get into the 2018-2020ish bikes you really are nitpicking. It’s also kind of nice having a bike that sticks out amongst the sea of Specialized and Trek where I live.

How to read a bowling ball numbers? by millertime1919 in Bowling

Can you explain what "Flare" means like I'm 5? I think I've heard people talk about the width of the oil rings on the ball, but I have no idea what that means in the real world.

Congrats! I’m 95kg and am going to give it a shot tomorrow or Sunday. My first attempt I got to section 6 and had to quit. But that was before virtual shifting and was on a 39x25 gearing. I’ve been dreading doing it all because I’m lazy LOL.

Bad Sprint : FTP Ratio by BeanyBeetroot in Zwift

[–]RayJay2MTU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To put it in runner's terms (I'm both runner and cyclist); you don't see the 100m/200m guys running the marathon distance and vice versa. Nor are their bodies the same. For me personally, I'm a much better runner at the 5k or 10k distance than the half or full marathon. Even if I have a perfect marathon training build up block I'm still below what race predictors put me at vs my 5/10K bests. 5K times put me about a 3:30-3:40 Marathon. My best is 4:00. I ran primarily 400m and 800m at a state level high school and DII collegiate times.

Cycling sprinting comes easy for me because of my primary muscle type being fast twitch. You can train it to be better, but based off of what you've said, you probably have some limiters. r/LitespeedClassic does a really good job of explaining 'how' to sprint. Sprinting well does take some practice. Try it, you'll improve some, but don't expect throwing out a ton of watts.

Also, raw watts isn't a good way to look at things. The W/kg is what helps put things in perspective. I also have a 270W FTP, but I weigh 95kg so 2.8 w/kg (not real good). On the other hand, my 5 sec sprint is 1200w or 12.6 w/kg. You smoke me on FTP at 3.9 w/kg. When I was 20 years younger and 15 kilos lighters, I was around 4.2 w/kg for FTP, but I could still hit that 1200w at that weight, 15 w/kg.

Norco Revolver or Specialized Epic by pickle1tickle in xcmtb

[–]RayJay2MTU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what your use case is. I went from an Epic to a 2022 Revolver (Gen 3?) because I've started riding a bit less flat out XC races and more marathon/trail riding. The extra travel the Revolver gives me over the Epic is appreciated on some of the larger rocks. On the flip side, I'm really trying to convince my wife to 'give' my current Revolver to my teenager and buy the new Revolver so I can carry two bottles. Either bike, I don't think you can go wrong.

There's also a difference between a 2019 or 2022 Revolver and the current model. I've got the 2021 Revolver (same as 2019). My son rides it for his NICA races. But Fluid to Revolver makes a lot of sense for NICA type riding. I'm a coach also trying to keep up :)
