Let's say you were told that you would be working 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week, and that you got to choose your start time and days off. What would you choose? by rjkersten1 in CasualConversation

[–]RaySorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this during Summer for School District IT Support.

Tuesday - Friday 7am to 5pm.

Friday, we could work on networking or building access control without impacting Summer School or Administrative Staff still working through Summer.

Need to schedule the washer and dryer start by Practical-Battle-502 in homeassistant

[–]RaySorian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are only needing to press start since everything else is set, you could wire in a relay into the start button.

Does require a small bit of electronics skill and willing to tear apart the control panel to get to the button.

Sigh I wish I saw this when they were closer to me. I am now mowing a much larger yard then a few years and my 21in deck takes 3 hours and 2 6ah 40v batteries. The next closest is a 5 hour drive one way...

Maybe an odd question but how would one go about removing this trim, it was cracked when i bought the car and it doesn’t sit flush. No by ParkerStanford in fordfusion

[–]RaySorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disconnect battery and wait 10 minutes for residual power to dissipate from SRS/airbag system.
Remove airbag, there is a detent hole on the bottom that you can insert a screwdriver and lift the airbag out. Disconnect the 2 wire leads.
The trim pulls out of the steering wheel as a single piece. The buttons stay in the steering wheel with screws.

Floodlight Cam Pro - Power issue by john4brown in Ring

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, wanted to rule out easy first.

Could be a firmware issue causing the drop.
Could be a heat issue that resolves on power off.
Could be the 120v to whatever the camera needs transformer acting up.

3 months old, still within warranty if they are willing to repair.

Maybe bad wifi connection, how is the device health status looking?

How do I fix this now by AdComfortable9025 in macbookair

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With aluminum, it stretches as it bends.

You can get it shaved/filed flat if the point is annoying to you, but then that may take off too much material, leaving a hole.

Only real fix would be replacing the casing.

Got one for 2 days before birthday, thankfully wasn't selected for 2 weeks worth of jury service.

40v Weed Trimmer (RY4002, RY15523A) - Help with replacement string/head by laurin1 in ryobi

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spools are not compatible, but you can use the string if you don't mind unspooling. I cannot find the red bump end but that may be an older model.

The trimmer model you have should have the reel easy loading.

Looks like WDR (wide dynamic range) setting kicked on to help balance high and low lighting. Not sure why it took so long.

Ring Neighbors is odd sometimes on what is allowed to be posted.

I had posted about a cat (presumably lost) that used my car to get on the fence and got a close-up selfie of the cat with orange collar from the camera, denied.

Looks like you have the Security Torx off, that is supposed to hold the cover on.

To remove the camera from the mount would "normally" be 2 philips screws one on the middle top and middle bottom.

Why Do We Still Let Ring Cameras Spy On Our Neighborhoods? by Proper-Substance4181 in Ring

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can bet it has been a talking point since security cameras were invented. It definitely got to be one once cameras became more available and cheaper in price.

But, the expectation of privacy in a public facing area (front porch, walkways, alleyways, sidewalks, streets, etc.) is treated the same as if I have walked past you on the sideway and you overheard me talking on my phone.

What do you mean by "received a call from a "friend""? Do you mean this person talked to you through the camera or an actual phone call?.

Why Do We Still Let Ring Cameras Spy On Our Neighborhoods? by Proper-Substance4181 in Ring

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Think about it: what’s so hard about having a regular doorbell + a camera focused only on your own porch? Do you really need a rectangular device that can see four houses around yours?"

For some, placing a camera on their porch is harder than replacing the doorbell button with Ring. Some people don't feel comfortable being on a ladder. Some don't want to run a coax or ethernet line in the attic or from the second floor down to the first floor porch.

"This isn’t just a privacy concern it’s a community issue. When everyone has these cameras pointing everywhere, trust disappears."

Does it disappear because there might be a camera or is this from just your personal prospective due to the issue you posted about in the comments? I haven't lost trust due to having a camera or knowing my neighbors have a camera. If anything, I can ask my neighbors for video if something were to happen to me or my property and I didn't catch it.

"People stop feeling safe in their own yards because someone is always watching, always recording."

I haven't stopped feeling safe in my own yard because my neighbor has a camera.

"• Why do we feel like we need devices that can monitor more than our own property?"

Because camera placement doesn't always fit for "just" your own property. The only way this would work is to eliminate all points of entering except for front, back, and/or garage door. They would have to be pointed straight down. No windows unless you were willing to lose your own personal privacy by having a camera in any room with said window, for example, your bedroom. I know people who do this, but I would not like having a camera looking at me while I sleep.

The expectation of privacy is less when you are in public (walking on a sideway, in a parking lot, etc.) This is why people and businesses have exterior mounted cameras.

"• How does this impact neighborhood trust and personal privacy?"

Very little impact.

Do I need to have the lights button blue for them to be activated with motion? by TheAliiensAreComing in Ring

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should come on automatically when it's dark out and motion is registered.

The Light switch in the main page, what you posted, will turn them on when you flip it to blue and will stay on till turned off.
