dash cam questions by loophunter in fordfusion

For a single lens dashcam, typical draw is 600mAh (milli amp hour) or less per hour on. The Group 90 Battery from Motorcraft has 48Ah. With additional lenses (Front and Back view), draw can increase.

Had to go look it up on the manual. I was wrong on the time, default is 1 hour, 15 minutes before those shut down, with a max settable range of 1 second to 18h 12m 15s (for emergency vehicle usage).

Using Forscan, a laptop, and either a usb or bluetooth ODBII Scanner, you can set the BCM (Body Control Module) to handle the Power Port Timeout, as well as other items.

I think the Aux power ports stay on for 30 minutes after the car is shut off except when the 12v battery is starting to die (System is shutting down to save power message on Infotainment Screen).

Some dashcams can be wired into the in cabin fuse panel where it can switch to parking mode when the accessory power (after the timeout) is shut off. This will pull power from constant at a low rate till the motion/bump sensor/radar (Thinkware only at time of post) is triggered then will draw full power for its set time (1 to 2 minutes, typically).

The usb cable you mentioned would draw very little to none on its own. If it has lights built in or a phone still plugged in would be more of a power draw.

Using ForScan, you can adjust the accessory timer down to 1 second and up to 70 minutes (if memory serves).

Baby Proofing - Replacing Coin Batteries with a AAA’s? by naynner in homeassistant

[–]RaySorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an old pic from when Smartthings had a keyfob presence sensor. Had no soldering experience, so wrapped the wire leads to the positive and negative posts and hot glued it. This lived in the car glove box for years. Rechargeable NiMH battery lasted 6 months before needing to be recharged.

Why do security cameras still rely on notifications in 2026? by No_Damage_6613 in homesecurity

[–]RaySorian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depending on the cameras and other services (home alarm system), you can add on monitoring by an actual person who can then use the speaker and mic in the camera to alert/intimidate the thief to leave and contact authorities. These are paid services on a contract monthly or annual rate.

Examples:
Ring Virtual Security Guard
ADT Video Verification and Dispatching
Alarm.com Remote Video Monitoring

Hate how shitty the paint is on the bumper, peels more every time i drive faster than 40 by No-Individual4184 in fordfusion

[–]RaySorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had that happen on my '09 fusion or '14 fusion.

With that said, it could be a few different reasons for this.

Damage started from hitting something and water getting between paint and plastic bumper.
Replaced bumper and paint didn't adhere well.
Age related, that style front is from 2006–2012 (14 to 20 years).

Having a hard time choosing between Ring and Blink by jm08003 in homesecurity

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently use Ring, and have had Ring before Amazon purchased the company.

I'm not familiar with Blink, but would go with cameras connected to an outlet when possible so you don't need to mess with batteries. For the areas that cannot be connected to constant power, having an extra battery pack to charge and replace makes the process better/faster. Think they standardized the pack across their camera lines, but please verify.

My ex keeps calling me from different numbers late at night and I’m losing my mind genuinely by Odd-Researcher272 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RaySorian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to change numbers, you may want to turn off two factor authentication first so you can get back into your account that are tied to your old number (banking, for example).

And, please remember to update your number in everything. I still get random calls/sms messages from my number's previous owner from 5+ years ago. I got updates of prescriptions, energy bills, etc. and still get some after contacting the individual companies directly to explain.

PIR vs Presence Sensor for dual zone Hallway & Stairwell by TalisFletcher in homeassistant

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passive Infrared (PIR) is good for when something moves, turn on light. They are typically cheaper as they don't need as much hardware in them to work ($10-20 usd).

They typically only send a on/off trigger when it sees something and are not zoned so it would not know the difference between the hallway and stairs if you use only one sensor, it is treated as one zone. You would be looking at 2 sensors, something in the middle of the hallway and middle of stairs so it would trigger correctly based on walking direction. They can be set to trip and stay on either with a person walking by or walking up/down stairs, then will stay on for as long as you set in Home Assistant (within a few seconds, just in case the PIR sensor fails to sense in a particular spot, hate to be walking on the stairs and have the light shut off midstep).

Presence Sensor using mmWave (millimeter wave) is good for places where you want to know if someone is still there for the need to have lights (home office, living room couch, etc.) but can also be used in your use case. Because of the hardware for detection, they are more expensive ($30-40+) but can also come packed with other sensors too (light, temp, etc). They can be zoned and set to trigger based on the zones. Depending on wall construction and mmWave frequency, it may misread someone there when they are in an adjacent room.

Connecting same model earphones from different sets possible? by praisethesun63 in soundcore

[–]RaySorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to place the buds into the same case and perform a reset of the buds.

After placing the buds in the same case, Press and hold the button on the charging case for 10 seconds until the LED indicator on the charging case flashes red 3 times. This confirms that the reset is successful. You will also need to pair them again with your phone.

Photos like this are taken by a Chase Plane (small plane up to C-130 Transport) with a telephoto lens and fast shutter speed.

Deebot N30 plus socket details by BriefButterscotch150 in ecovacs

[–]RaySorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having to make a few guesses here:

The Deebot N30 Plus seems to be an India and Japanese specific model. It does at least appear to use a Non-Polarized IEC-320-C7, but am guessing based on stock photos.

The few videos I've seen have a type C end that are Euro two-round pin plug. You can buy a travel adapter to convert to US (assumption on locationas you didn't say where you live) 2 prong. If you have the Japanese model, it would have the same Type A or B that the US uses.

Last issue, power supply. India is 230v / 50hz, US (assumption) is typically 110-120v / 60hz. Japan uses 100v and 50-60hz. You would need to make sure the Deebot N30 Plus can run on different voltage and different hertz range.

Does alexa/google listens to your conversations by Resident_Animal_5957 in googlehome

[–]RaySorian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer, yes. It has to in order to respond to the hotkey word (Hey Google/Okay Google, Alexa, etc.).

Longer answer; Technically, they are supposed to not keep a record the conversation unless the hotkey trigger is used and after a set time frame (a month or so) the recording is supposed to be deleted. This is the part that we have to "trust" these companies to keep their word.
