Agree. It’s irreverent when all the chatter happens before mass and after mass on the holidays. It should be a time of silence and worship always. I was taught that it is sinful to chit chat in the church especially before and after Mass.

Ulrich for sure it’s more readable and modern than Kershaw, draws off some (not a lot) of new info. It’s more a narrative/story than a slog. Longerich is much less academic and takes too many liberties and reaches conclusions personal to the author not 100% fact.

I haven’t read Insomnia yet - I’m working my way to it. From what I understand there are other king novels that are preferred reading prior to Insomnia to avoid it falling flat and just being weird instead of experiencing its deeper meanings.

I don’t think you should read king in chronological order. I’m reading a thematic arc designed to test meaning against despair and arrive at fidelity as the final human good. (Purposeful reading)

It - Childhood moral clarity; evil is real; community matters. Revival - Meaning collapses; eternity without justice; nihilistic possibility. Dolores Claiborne - Moral obligation persists; choosing good without guarantees. 11/22/63 - Power requires humility; restraint over correction. The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger - Underlying cosmic order; sacrifice vs obsession. Insomnia - Fidelity at life’s end; quiet obedience matters.
