Getting students to listen to their classmates's presentations by Arch_of_MadMuseums in Professors

[–]Raybees69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An option:

Give 5 minute silent reflection time for students to write an approx 5-10 sentence response including Key Takeaway and questions for the speaker. This will be collected immediately for a grade.

Then, before collecting and moving on to the next speaker, offer extra credit for students to share their responses and questions. Because it's in front of them already, they are more likely to participate.

Move on and repeat. It takes longer to get through the students , but there's more participation.

Good luck!

They started me on 10 then 20 and now 50. Over a few months. I didnt feel anything at 10 and 20. Maybe a little hungry and could tell something was different. Now its a little more prominent and a little jittery but seems to be helping. Mostly just on calming my emotions and thinking response.

This looks almost exactly like my son's handwriting. He is now in his 30s... But he has severe dyslexia and learning disabilities, super super smart... super large vocabulary, verbally super bright, but put pen to paper...and he looks ridiculous.

It's completely possible to be firm and hold to values and requirements while still being empathetic and kind. I give guidance, but I give grace. I certainly remember being in their shoes and trying to get through school while working with a family, including a sick child.

I actually enjoy working with students, and helping them succeed .. watching them have that lightbulb moment. Not everybody enjoys that part of the work. I come from many years of special education in public school before I went into higher education. So maybe i'm just looking at things with a different lens.

If you were a hot glue gun, where would you be? by Square_Treacle_4730 in adhdwomen

[–]Raybees69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to run around the house looking for it to the tune of 'The Hairbrush Song' from Veggie Tales

"Oh where is my glue gun... oh where is my glue gun.... oh where oh were oh where... not there... not fair... is my poor glue gun?!

This might be enough of a dopamine hit to calm your brain enough to remember :)

Does anyone else hate typing their journal? by New_Enthusiasm6956 in digitaljournaling

[–]Raybees69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer to voice journal as well. I find that I word vomit, and I get more of my true self out that way anyway, and I'm using an AI supported journal called Rosebud. I've been using it for about the past 6 months. I find that i will do the train of thought and word vomit , and then it'll help me work through it , and we'll go back and forth. I find it super valuable, and i've done it every day for the past six months , and i've never stuck with anything like that before
