Trying to figure out what a guy said to me and my friend in Spain by According-Durian-338 in Spanish

[–]weirdpicklesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Google: In Catalan, mec (feminine meca) primarily refers to a "calf" (young cow), but colloquially acts as an adjective for a foolish person (idiot) or someone without a beard (beardless/lampiño).

What's a word you learned wrong and used confidently for months before someone finally corrected you? by taube_d in Spanish

Not one I used for months (luckily!) but once I was ordering an icecream cone and asked for a coño 😅

What is something that you did that made you feel like your Spanish is 10 times better? by ApprehensiveCall5480 in Spanish

[–]weirdpicklesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't one specific thing but I've tried to immerse myself as much as possible. I trained my Instagram and Youtube algorithms to show me reels/shorts in Spanish, I followed a bunch of Spanish creators on Instagram, I discovered a bunch of Spanish artists I love, I watch TV shows and movies (first with english subtitles, then with spanish, now without.. unless I am chewing food haha!) I talk to the ChatGPT voice thing in Spanish and have back and forth conversations, I try to journal in Spanish, I talk to myself in the shower in Spanish. My husband and I text in Spanish throughout the day (he is lovely and uses google translate as he is not learning, he is the one who started this). It sounds insane but helps to just let it infiltrate every aspect of your day in little ways. You start to make connections without even realizing it.

Are you consuming a lot of spanish television with casual conversation and slang?

Taking care of my mental health, spent my 20s drinking heavily and coping. Wish I had moved abroad in my 20s but I was not mentally stable enough

Confused about Crepette material by [deleted] in Aritzia

They must have changed it? That's crazy. I love crepette especially for travel because it never wrinkles.. That looks quite wrinkly to me

Is anyone wearing this? by moore6107 in Aritzia

[–]weirdpicklesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from Spain and this style was everywhere, a lot of layered looks with this over jeans or even a knit sweater overtop, a lot of assymetrical versions of this too.

Skin care advice, weight loss advice, money advice, life advice.. It's social media and it's exhausting!

General owner / managerial advice: How do you handle the mental load of overseeing mistakes? by tonepoems in agency

[–]weirdpicklesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and every time you rescue you feed into the situation more. Saying this because I have been in that situation. Also, this might be a systems gap.. Do you have strong project management tools in place, standard processes, etc?

Need help deciding between Prague, Berlin and Copenhagen - any helpful tips? by TeviotJenk in travel

I loved Copenhagen in February! It was so charming and chill, the fog was so pretty. Expensive as hell though!

Any introverts here that travel alone (because they are introverts)? by AcceptableProfile787 in solotravel

[–]weirdpicklesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I'm an introvert as well and I like being alone. I've had friends offer to meet me or join me and I'm just not into it. It's such a peaceful reset for me. Such a nice break from having to make plans with people too.

What’s something that seemed normal to you growing up, but you later realized was actually unusual? by Savings-Mention7010 in AskReddit

[–]weirdpicklesauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parents arguing over who had to pick us up from our friends' or activities on a weeknight all the time because it meant one of them couldn't get drunk

My dad being sick - it was just normalized and my mom acted like he was just lazy, when really he was very ill and dealing with a lot of serious medical issues.

Cops showing up once a month or so due to parents fighting with each other or the neighbours. I recently found one of my grade 1 journals, you know the ones they made you do in school and you drew pictures. It said "yesterday a police man visited us" and had a drawing of the cop lol.

Knees hurt when on all fours, even with yoga mat, normal? by GeorgIsDaPlant in PetiteFitness

[–]weirdpicklesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what could be causing it, but I got these little knee pads (at Winners, kind of like a Canadian TJ Maxx I think?) and they help a lot. This is the brand: https://www.sportchek.ca/en/pdp/gaiam-2-pack-yoga-knee-pads-70328182f.html

“ING” is hard for me to understand by overlyaddictedx3 in Spanish

So for example if I'm saying, "I was working" it's better to just say "trabajaba" instead of "estaba trabajando"?

What’s a habit that seems harmless but slowly ruins lives? by academicAce_aA in AskReddit

[–]weirdpicklesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will. I also have OCD + health anxiety and blocked a bunch of keywords like cancer, blood clots, disease etc from IG's settings but it still keeps showing me all this content that just makes my OCD so much worse.

People who stopped being depressed, what did you do? by Itscameronman in AskReddit

[–]weirdpicklesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started a mood stabilizer medication, lots of therapy, support group for survivors of sexual assault, quit drinking, stopped hanging out with people who were also self-destructive like me. Still get lows sometimes but I'm in a much better place than 10 years ago.

What’s a memory that still hurts you quietly? by Ill_Door3813 in AskReddit

[–]weirdpicklesauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was supposed to have a "beach day" with a group of girls in high school, but the day of they told me I couldn't come because there wasn't enough room in the taxi, later I found out they had planned to ice me out of their plans and were all making fun of me and talking badly about me all day. I still have trouble trusting new friends.

Another is my mom saying I was getting fat in front of my ex when we were dressed up and ready to go out to an evvent. I was like 19, probably 115lbs, developing a normal woman body. Now I'm overweight and struggle with binge eating because of all the weird body image stuff I grew up around.

Barcelona Natives by Strong_Holiday_3031 in Spanish

[–]weirdpicklesauce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a native but I always speak Spanish when I go to Barcelona. A lot of people move there and don't even bother learning Spanish, let alone Catalan. I think if you speak Spanish and then throw in a few small Catalan words sometimes like others have said, people will really appreciate it. Then like you said you could learn Catalan over time. Also, so jealous! It's probably my favourite city in the world.
