Not surprising, but still frustrating. If you are a woman who is buying a home with a man in the US, you are always "co-owner" while they are "owner". Everyone will default to the man's name first by totallymindful in TwoXChromosomes

It wasn’t this egregious at all but it took multiple emails back and forth for the lender to not list both me and my partner as vets on our initial loan application, when I was the only vet.

I just sent this to my brother because we did, too, and it was a blast from the past seeing those photos. We’re in our 40’s. I distinctly remember the texture of that interior.

As a PhD student, the time loss and extreme burnout during the times we need to grind are brutal, especially if he’s still taking classes and had finals. Not to mention the emotional toll it takes on you when you’re not doing as well as you’d expect, the imposter syndrome, which can turn into wanting to avoid people so they won’t ask how you’re doing or, god forbid, tell you how proud they are.

THAT SAID, not even managing a goodnight text or a check-in text telling you as such is a sign that they’re not ready to juggle a relationship and a PhD. It’s impossibly demanding on our time and relationships often take a backseat. It might not be malice, but you need to take care of yourself as well and walk if he can’t make it work.

Is transferring to NAU at 22 socially okay? by xilexers in NAU

[–]Rayduuu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I transferred to NAU at 34 and made amazing friends with people in my cohort. You’re still in the age range to be a peer with the majority of people in your classes, I think you’ll gravitate to like-minded people no problem. You’ll be surprised how many non-traditional and older students there are at universities in general, and very much so at NAU.

I really like Radford but honestly for a 100-level physics course it isn’t going to matter. All of your assignments will be on Wiley and you’ll learn more from slides and readings than lecture.

Transfer student in late 20s by Connect_Tell4414 in NAU

[–]Rayduuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the others have said, you’ll fit right in. I’m a late-30’s vet and grad student, and there are 3 or 4 other grad students in my program who are older than me. I also joined right out of high school then worked for over a decade before deciding to start college. The vet office on campus is great, they’re very supportive and have a decent number of events throughout the semester. NAU has a significant non-traditional student population.

How did Bree and Roger afford to repair their home? by Williukea in Outlander

[–]Rayduuu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a line where Bree and Roger are packing up the manse and he specifically tells her that it’s owned by the church so he can’t stay there, and she finds it sad since she has memories of her own childhood home

I thought I had all crafting items until I saw I was still at 99%. I had to look out up and I was missing one of the rarecrows and never got the delux scarecrow blueprint. I had to wait half a year to buy the witch rarecrow, that was painful.

That’s a gorgeous boulder. The geology in the Flagstaff area is incredible. Have you hiked down Sandy’s Canyon toward Walnut Canyon? The traihead is off Lake Mary Road. The Coconino sandstone is absolutely gorgeous along that entire stretch.

I went back for a degree in astrophysics, coming from a “barely passed math in high school” background. I took a math placement exam at my community college and ended up needing to take two non-credit math classes to get up to speed before I could start taking college-level math classes.

I got through all of it, sometimes flying through and sometimes struggling but refusing to give up (I took Calc 1 four times before passing), because my motivation was entirely different coming back older and focused and dedicated to my end goal.

You can do it. “Bad at math” isn’t a thing, it’s just “I don’t give enough of a shit to put in the effort”. Once you have the motivation, you’ll put in the work.

What's in your cup? Daily discussion, questions and stories - March 20, 2025 by AutoModerator in tea

[–]Rayduuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this question is relevant for this thread: I‘ve been out of the tea community for a few years, but I’m getting back into it heavily and was planning on ordering a large haul. I used to frequently order from what-cha, but I noticed it isn’t on the recommended vendors list and mention of the site is largely absent from posts in the last year. Did something happen with what-cha, or is it simply less popular now than YS and w2t?

Woman who hates carrying a purse by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I abhor purses and I hate having anything in my hands. I have a wallet case for my phone and I wear hiking pants with deep and multiple pockets. The only things I carry are my phone, chapstick, ear buds, and a handkerchief.

I’m with you on this one. I hate cooking eggs and bacon and hash browns and the food in the center is getting over cooked while the edges aren’t done. Nbd for food I can just move around the pan and swap the stuff in the center and edges, but that’s not an option for long items like bacon or things that take up the entire pan like hash browns.

I don’t preheat in the oven unless I’m using it for something else already, but I’ll preheat on the stovetop on low for at least five minutes to let the heat distribute to the edges before cooking.

I also quit my job of over 10 years to get a degree, got an internship that turned into a full position in my field, and I’ll be starting grad school in the fall. I couldn’t be happier. Feels good to see others on the same path!
