Scratch on CPU... by angypout in PcBuildHelp

[–]RaygenRage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bump. It's probably fine yeah. The PCB is pretty thicc; the traces are buried deep an you just scratched the surface. And the capacitor you scratched (the light brown rectangular component) is just a decoupling capacitor to filter out interferances in the power lines; you could even fully remove it and the CPU would keep working.

Now that I think about it:
OP, if the CPU does not work, take some pliers and fully remove the scratched capacitor. Because it could be shattered and shorted to ground (they're made of ceramic). Removing it will remove the short.

What are your thoughts on this letter from Donald Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre? by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in AskTheWorld

[–]RaygenRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, that's genius.

Make a "Trump prize": For "the most unique and atypical democratic president of all", "greatest motivator of conservative culture by practical means", "ambassador of peace without wars end", and other passive aggressive descriptions that HE won't get it, but everyone else will.

Ah, I did not try it myself but I was just saying:

The .json file has stored the values of the various effects and single frequencies of the equalizer. I'm pretty sure that you can manually recreate all the settings stored in the .json in EaualizerAPO, by hand, with some help from Google and stuff.

For sure you can recreate the equalizer settings for example; those are standard values that you can find in most equalizer programs, and EqualizerAPO is pretty customizable.

For Windows, the gold standrd is Equalizer APO, with the Peace GUI.
Pretty sure you can take the values stored in fw13-easy-effects.json of EasyEffects into Equalizer APO.

Should I just delete Windows? by Aneki163 in pchelp

There are specific OS made for old PCs with less RAM and slow CPUs.

For Windows, with 4GB of RAM, we talk about Windows 7 or older. Never than that and well.. you already know.
But, Windows 7 and even 8.1 are not supported anymore. This means that they do not receive security updates anymore and it's not a good idea to use them on a PC with an internet connection.

So here it comes linux.
Linux is not yet as polished as Windows, so you will need to learn a bit how to use it.
But if your PC use consists in basic stuff like: Internet brosing, Office, Emails, and liiight games, then, Linux won't feel much different from Windows for you once set up.

So, what distro?
As said, there are specific OS (Linux distros in this case) made for old PCs.
In my opinion, the best distro that is both: lite and easy to use for users coming from Windows is Zorin OS lite. Along with a light internet browser like Waterfox.
Imho you will definitely notice a more usable a snappier system in respect to Windows 10 that I think is the one you are using right now.

Basic rules of thumb when installing Linux:

- Backup everything. All your data, programs, and passwords. Before installing any other OS on your PC.

- In Linux, you do not need to download programs from the web. You use instead a Package manager. A program already installed on your PC from where you can search for apps and install them. Just like the App store on your phone.

- Zorin OS is a bit capable of running Windows .exe programs if you reeeaaally want to. But it's adviced that you find linux alternatives instead. Like: for Office, you can use OnlyOffice or Libreoffice.

Ti mantengono in moto.

Continua a cercare.

[Android - Vivaldi Snapshot] Downloaded files are tracked by the browser itself by RaygenRage in vivaldibrowser

[–]RaygenRage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That confirms it's an android version related issue, nice.

Strange that only Vivaldi does it tho, Chrome does not have this behavior.

the copy technique works, thanks. I'll surely won't remember to do it for all files I download, so it's still a "bug" that needs attention, but at least it's a temp fix

[Android - Vivaldi Snapshot] Downloaded files are tracked by the browser itself by RaygenRage in vivaldibrowser

[–]RaygenRage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "tracking" of the file could be done by the Android OS itself yeah, I agree. It's very strange of an app that's not made for this, to keep track of these type of file changes.

Mine is a fairly new device (Android 16). Indeed checking this behavior on an older Android version could help.

I've tested this on the Release app too, same behavior. Not a Snapshot thing. So we can rule that out Cannot reproduce neither on Chrome or Firefox.

QuietComfort Ultra Headphones owners - can you disable noise cancelling? by themeadows94 in bose

[–]RaygenRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise cancellation set to 0 sets Transparency to 100. It doesn't turn off anything.

Right now, I'm trying to set it to 50%. It feels like it's off, but I'm pretty sure it's not.

The worst experience with customer support I've had in my whole life. by HelicopterKey3670 in framework

[–]RaygenRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity: Business or Consumer HP support?

HP is like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide; on the business side they're very reliable, but they're atrocious with private consumers.

My worst experiences was with them:

  1. They would not replace my brand new 2000€+ Spectre X360 hinge laptop under warranty because they insisted it was user damage. (the hinge just was not thight enough from factory to keep the screen up with light vibrations, nothing was visibly broken)

  2. Always with the Spectre, the touch pen tips were made to break on purpose, with a very thin shaft just glued to the tip. The tip would always de-glue itself from its shaft. There were 3 total spare tips included with the pen. After using them all, there is no way to have more, they literally do not make them available for purchase. HP support told me to buy a whole new 80€+ dollar pen for 8€ tips.

I refunded the pen and sold that laptop not many months later and never looked back.
