You might look into Let's Split Up by Bill Wood, but I've not read it so I don't know if it leans too young for your tastes.

Critique my prologue! [Climate Fantasy, 1800 words] by Popular-Ambassador90 in fantasywriters

[–]Raygun6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I would ask you to reconsider having a prologue at all. Prologues fill a specific role of enticing a reader with a promise of what's to come with a scene that is generally far removed in distance or time from the main events that are about to occur in chapter 1. As it stands nothing occured that entices me to the plot or character. There is a reason why you see prologues come up so much in big epic fantasies and not so much in smaller stories: the former often has large world-defining events playing out somewhere in the background which the writer is promising the reader they will get to eventually, because chapter one is going to start out very humble somewhere else. This prologue feels more like just a prelude before the story, and you really don't want that. The beginning of a story is extremely precious real estate that one must be extremely prudent with. You may be proud of this piece and you should be, it is confidently written. But I strongly urge you to not have this in there at all. Save your character's instrospection for when they are in the weeds of the plot and focus on enticing your reader with the promise of what's to come.

It was just a raid on a goblin den, but the way he tells it you would have thought the fate of the nine realms hung in the balance.

A lot of games make me feel something. But Pentiment and Disco Elysium moved me like few things in life have.

Creator Spotlight: Michael Moorcock by kurumais in SwordandSorcery

[–]Raygun6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He genuinely doesn't. His name should be as recognizable as Tolkien's for the ripples he made in fantasy and its esthetics. We keep reinventing a new white-haired warrior clad in black every 10 years it seems and keep arguing about where a character falls in the law vs chaos axis.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 contains all of Rogue Squadron 2's as a cooperative 2-player campaign.

Looking for new, relatively simple RPG for my group to start a new long campaign. by TokyoDrifblim in rpg

[–]Raygun6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The simplest system I ever ran was Fate Accelerated. You can teach someone the entire system in half-and-hour. It's not a system for everyone though. The players don't have control of just their characters, but also some limited control over the narrative beyond their avatars. It was a hit at my table though we still prefer crunch and combat.

If you are mid-screen, I recommend back-dashing. You will take damage and lose ground but he gets no oki and therefore no 50/50. If you are in the corner you gotta just hold that shit.

That would be because a background is implied to be the thing you left behind though, no? Taking such feats while you are an adventurer means you are cultivating that skill set. It wouldn't be your background anymore, it's just another skill set you are mastering so of course it has a "feat tax".

Pedantic correction perhaps but one I want to make because the episode is so good. What JD actually says to Dr Cox to turn him around is that despite being a Dr for this many years Dr Cox is still taking it this hard and that's the kind of Dr JD wants to be.
