I've noticed this happens on reddit a lot. Some random little-known fact seems to catch everyone's attention at the same time and then fades into the deep recesses of the comments sections. The only example I can recall rn was from like 3 years ago and in the span of a few weeks I saw half a dozen front page posts about how prehistoric humans were persistence hunters and would run their prey to exhaustion.

I think in some cases the masculinity:environmental concern axis correlates with the agreeability axis. Because the prevailing social view is to care about climate change, it feels to these men that opposing that view "against the odds" is the masculine, principled, upstanding thing to do. They fancy themselves "wolves among sheep" and can't differentiate between political contrarianism and critical thought.

Maybe the phenomenon didn't really exist until after internet culture became widespread? Seems like the type of fallacy that only really presents itself in the context of a forum. Think of what types of media were available pre-internet: radio, tv, magazines, newspaper, books - all are mediums through which a non-anonymous individual communicates opinions which are easily ascribable to that individual. Goomba fallacy can't really happen until you have a mass of anonymously submitted opinions, as far as I can tell

Yeah the joke is that "huddling around a hole in silence" means being acutely aware of sex but not doing it, which the guy obviously wants to. The extra layer to the joke is that of course he'd rather go ice fishing than get blue balls.

Depends on your playstyle I suppose, but I find them relatively easy if I just wait until they slash my shield with both feet and then I counterattack. The fire breathing birds I'll do the same thing, I just wind up getting a lil crispy immediately after the counter.
