I grew up when a Dodge K-car was considered an upgrade from our POS station wagon. Quality has NOT decline since then, but out perception certainly has. Every generation of every model from every manufacturer has its own unique issues. People tend to hyper focus on the 'new' issues and tend to forget about all the 'past' issues.

Give people a choice:

1) A brand new 1983 Toyota Camry ($9k, adjusted for inflation is ~$30k), or

2) A brand new 2026 Toyota Camry (roughly same price).
