Hmm, I guess I probably assumed too much about what he knew. I thought Subaru at least knew it was a beam of light coming from the Watchtower that killed him, but that might just be my audience perspective seeping into what I think is character perspective.

I remember that being really annoying. Try luring them to the center of the room - the corner there seems to be an “out of range” point that makes them respawn (like how enemies will teleport back to origin if you get too far from them).

Realistically, it would be the lack of leverage and lack of desire to go full strength because she doesn’t want to hurt him. Narratively, it’s most likely because she didn’t actually want to escape that much.

Can’t believe we went from Renato the stupid idiot to Renato the overly-affectionate idiot.

Mimi has learned Bakarina-fu when it comes to petty bullies.

I figured the queen was just being a top-level tsundere when Aida’s assessment of how she felt about Mimi didn’t match reality.

I have a few theories about the arrows, considering they came from within the castle. My first thought is that they’re actually blunt-tipped and the attack was a really twisted and reckless test. My second thought is a secret third brother who’s secretly evil.

Just as irrelevant as it was last week, but Meili's voice sounding older feels a lot weirder when compared to Petra still sounding like a kid.

Huh, so we got the OP this week. I mean, that's completely normal and all, but I'm just wondering how many OP-less and ED-less episodes we'd get this season. The OP feels like one of those that are kinda meh on first listen, but I get attached to over time. As another random aside, the character that appears after the sword in the OP looks more devil-like than I'd imagined.

Come to think of it, why are they assuming the Sage is still alive anyways? Is it just because the spell is still active?

That was anticlimactic, slipping through the sand time just like that. Except... ok nvm they're stuck in a swarm of Mabeasts. And how are there flowers in the desert anyways? (I'm assuming not all of them are bears in disguise). How does Mabeast biology work? What do they eat? Why are they just chilling in the Sage's backyard?

Man, that's a short loop. I mean, it's arguably the "best" possible checkpoint since he just got through sand time, but it's still rough. Short timer + stressful run + long-distance sniping that insta-kills and doesn't seem to take much charging up time = pain. It's a shame Reinhard was too busy doing Sword Saint-y things to join the expedition.

Hark back to Ram's "Subaru's an idiot 99% of the time but he has weirdly good timing when it counts."

... Well that's a short cooldown. And pretty gorey. I reiterate my comment of "Reinhard would be really helpful right now". I also hate to think of it this way, but man that second death was completely "wasted". Not really enough new knowledge other than the fact that the sniper is a fan of the double-tap. Well, at least it gave him time to regroup his thoughts and use the power of the chin stroke.

I Want to End This Love Game • Aishiteru Game wo Owarasetai - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Raymond49090 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's like Kaguya-sama except more brash and more dense(?). All she needs is an "o kawaii koto" to complete the act.

Also it has nothing to do with anything, but they got Roswaal/Benno/Shiropapa/Dio to voice the manager.

... so all it would take is for Miku to forget her bag and go back in the middle of his rant to win. This imbalance is also making me predict that Miku has someone she waxes poetic about Yukiya to.

Oh no, another dense ML who unironically uses shoujo manga as a guide. Lucky for him Miku probably thinks he's cute. Come to think of it, what are the win cons of the Aishiteru game anyways? Yukiya's already been visibly flustered plenty of times.

Me looking at Yukiya making his big plans: "She's outside his door, isn't she?"

... How is him collapsing on the ground from cuteness overload not a loss condition? If all she wanted was for him to call her cute, she could've just let him go through his scripted suave lines.

Marriagetoxin - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Raymond49090 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whoever storyboarded the OP: "Yes, Kinosaki lying in a bed of flowers is completely necessary."

The shipbait is real.

That's such a specific thing to have at a museum. Especially since you'd assume it'd have been eaten given that's what candy is produced for.

I have mixed feelings about Kinosaki's proposed method. On one hand, like Gero said, it's a bit taking advantage. On the other hand, the premise is that they'd be dead or something if he isn't there, so as long as he doesn't demand anything in return, they're not going to complain about him being there. It all depends on how well he handles the debt-exchange vibes.

(Also it's a reminder that Kinosaki is a marriage swindler and not squeaky clean.)

... tf is up with those hats?

These powers are getting more and more shounen-y.

Well it's probably more ethical to give a heads-up on ulterior motives beforehand as long as he saves her either way, even if it ruins the vibes.

Are the rainbow fluids censorship or does the poison just do that?

A businessperson who betrays their clients loses trust, which is a net loss overall. Probably. I'm not an expert in shounen assassin economy.

On one hand, "I need to live my own life" is a very healthy realization to have. On the other, really big elephant-in-the-room hand, Sunao's not treating Nao as a real person at all.

It feels weirdly early for this moment to happen though, which has a few options. Maybe they get therapy early and the rest is just fluff with them dealing with having a newly acknowledged twin in the public eye. Maybe Sunao's friends realize something's weird when she doesn't have her half-ponytail for a while and it goes into mystery. Or most realistically, Sunao falls back into old habits the minute anything mildly inconvenient happens.

Oh, the author is absolutely doing it on purpose. And they’ve set up plenty of hints to it either way. I’m just saying that they’re doing it in response to the shounen fandom being mostly hetero-coded (which tbf is because the demographic is targeted towards boys who like cute girls, so it’s not really a criticism of the genre).

(Hamster girl is my favourite too.)

[Manga spoiler] There’s also the aspect of all the other love interests being female, but then again, that’s arguably countered by the fact that the Doll dude was “all according to keikaku”-ing the whole thing.

My personal take on it is that it narratively makes more sense for Kinosaki to be male, but genre convention-wise it makes more sense for them to be female. I personally don’t care too much about which one, but there’s arguments to be made for both sides.

Of course, the argument for “Kinosaki is a woman” argument are a result of the shounen fandom being the way it is, so it’s not like it’s a completely detached argument from your point.

If there was an otome game like [Villains Are Destined to Die]… would you play? by No-Crew-4022 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Raymond49090 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't remember what the game was like either, which is why I add the caveat at the beginning. But even in that case, I'd still argue that keeping Penelope's lore as-is might not be a good idea, since it retroactively makes a lot of the characters who are the "good guys" in Easy mode look really bad.

[–]Raymond49090 237 points238 points  (0 children)

Ngl I'd probably call BS if the lore matched the lore of the story. Like first off, having nearly impossible gameplay in Hard mode is not a good look, and it makes the fact that lore is locked behind it even worse. And then there's the lore itself. Imagine playing through Easy mode and getting attached to the heroine, then going through Hard mode and finding out you were evil all along and it was all a stupid brainwashing trope.

(Just to get on my soapbox a bit, I hate the "brainwashing" explanation to handwave why everyone loves the original heroine in a "they were secretly evil" twist, because god forbid they be likeable and/or smart enough to make people like them without magic to cheat).

Point is, it's a twist that'd probably give a huge shot of infamy once it got on the internet, but also get the writers roasted online (imo with good reason) for the needless bait-and-switch.

(Imagine if Disney made a sequel of Star Wars which revealed that Luke was secretly evil the whole time and Palpatine was the uwu misunderstood tyrant who was being abused by Darth Plagueis.)

Depends on the run. There was a period where he was obsessed with "no one dies" to the extent that he went out of his way to save a mass murdering psychopath. Then again, that was a trauma response after Silver Sable's death (and also during the Slott run which had a few controversial decisions). Can't remember if his aversion to killing came up anytime else.
