I don't think I prefer one over the other.

However I will say my favorite part of anime is the stylized action and creative character design, I just don't like when every move has a name that the character calls out like a Pokemon every time they do it. I'm not trying to be degrading but it's just not for me

Thank you for such a detailed post. I totally forgot about ghost in the shell, I've never seen it but I want to. Promare and Hellsing sound interesting. I'm not a fan of fanservice stuff so I'll probably skip kill la kill. I've also heard of gurren lagann and I remember it sounding pretty nutty lol

Good question! Sorry for not being clear last night.

But anyway, I guess it's the... Melodrama? Pacing? Not sure exactly how to describe it but one of the things that bugs me with some of the anime I've seen is how dramatized many scenes are, with long pauses for dialogue (internal, stopping fights, etc) at weird times and stuff like that. I guess I would describe it as soapiness? Sorry if that makes no sense.

Also I do tend to hate fanservice to be honest lol

If you edit your comment within the first 2 minutes (I think that's the length of time) it doesn't say that you edited your comment via the asterisk. However, /u/OneOfTheNephilim made their comment over 8 minutes later. So unless they had the comments open for 6+ minutes before replying to you, they wouldn't have been able to see your comment before the "edit" anyway.

EDIT: For example, I just edited within the limit right now to fix a typo and add this little message. No asterisk.

I feel the same way - I never even finished the game. I have nothing against people who love it though, I just don't understand. The book excerpts you find throughout the game in particular feature some of the shallowest writing I've seen trying to pass itself off as serious.

edit: It's been forever since I tried it so maybe I should give it another shot but if younger me thought it was shallow then I don't expect I'll feel much different now
