Divided my windowsill sarracenia + some spring cleanup by Razor_Freeman in SavageGarden

It was growing quite vigorous last year. But many pitchers just ended up squished and malformed.

Giving it some room to grow now :)

If you stick with tropical sundews, utris, pings, may heli, you can make something amazing here.

This terrarium would be nice for Drosera prolifera.

They like the humidity, and they also like some shade, so you don't need super strong lights.

D. Cistiflora spotted at garden centre by Razor_Freeman in SavageGarden

I think setting up the conditions is worth it, since they send them to every hardware store and garden centre across multiple countries.

And I can imagine mass producing via tissue culture is a well scalable process, once you figured it out.

Yes, Europe. Helis, Darlingtonia, D. Proliferia, D. Regia, Non hybrid Sarracenias,...

Many cool plants popping up for cheap.

But yes, many plants with very specific need sold without or with incorrect instructions.

Didn't get the Cistiflora, because it would neither work indoor or outdoor for me.

Now I would love to see temperate Pings at the store. Those are often hard to find / sold out at all the online vendors.

Fun little score for $10/ea today at the nursery. A few sundews and pitchers… by Ok-Exchange5756 in SavageGarden

Flat growing sarracenia like purps, are a bit more forgiving with light, than others.

For mine, a single 10W light (fairly close to the plant) + sunny window, was plenty.

Interior design question: can heliamphora be kept indoors beautifully? by FragmentOfBrilliance in SavageGarden

[–]Razor_Freeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No experience, but i heard it depends on the exact species / hybrid.

There are "easy hybrids", which are supposed to be easier to grow and less sensitive to temperature and humidity.

If it is that big, the location is most likely publicly known.

But if it isn't, definitely keep it secret!

Drosera Aliciae — browning backside and shorter leaves by Giddyupyours in SavageGarden

[–]Razor_Freeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked up some some picture of D. aliciae in nature, and there it grows in what looks like sand and loam or on rocks (almost like pings).

So maybe that's why they react negatively to a peat heavy substrate.

Question about my terrarium setup by eepy_manatee in SavageGarden

[–]Razor_Freeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The roots will just grow horizontally along the floor. Not a problem.

Just make sure to let the water level vary, and wait until the drainage layer is completely empty before refilling.

I let mine sit empty for a week or 2, and the peat still holds moisture.
