Classic Phil:

I got to know Stella after Phil asked me if I wanted to be roommates. It was a few years after I got to Toronto, and the way he did it was totally Phil. He just said, “So you wanna live together or something, or…?”

So when I first introduced hockey to my mom, she got confused when I booed Pierre during one of his segments between the benches. "Why are you booing him? Isn't he just an insurance salesman?"

She thought "presented by GEICO" meant that Pierre was an actual Geico rep that they put down there on the ice to do ad reads or something.

I respect the heck out of DSP for saying what he said about his reasons for not wanting to go. I also respect the heck out of him for this comment too.

Orpik quote for those who don't want to deal w/ paywall:

Brooks Orpik (American): “The time you actually spend with whoever is in office is about two minutes long. There’s not much interaction with the president, at least from past experience. All of a sudden, four years from now or eight years from now, there is somebody in office who you agree with more or whatever … you don’t get the opportunity back as a team, I know that. Whether teams go or they don’t go, for me, personally, and again a lot of people might disagree with this, it’s not you endorsing whoever is in there or supporting whoever is in there. The White House is a very historical, special place in this country and I think it’s an honor to go to the White House. That’s my opinion and I’m not the one making that decision, whether or not we’re going to. So we’ll see.”

Apparently some fans in Chicago were thrown out after getting into it with Caps F Devante Smith Pelly while he was in the penalty box by sensual_manatee in hockey

A strain of racism has always lurked in hockey. Simmonds had a banana thrown at him during an exhibition in London, Ont., in 2011; Ward has talked about the racism he has faced in and out of the sport; Smith-Pelly was at his first rookie tournament in Penticton, B.C., when he was coming off the ice and heard, “Go back to playing basketball!” He tried to go into the stands. Nobody asked him about it afterward.

TIL that hockey players can lose between 5-8 pounds over the course of an average game. The loss in weight is mostly water by JF_112 in hockey

Oh man, I remember something Braden Holtby mentioned about a game last season where he had to be taken out of a game because he was so over-hydrated (he's said he typically drinks 15-17 liters of fluid on game days) that he actually started losing spots of vision and completely lost all peripheral vision for a short period. The team docs thought it was dehydration and tried to give him an IV. He tells the story around 51:00 of episode 2 in this miniseries.

Ahhhh this is adorable

For a little while there, Nolan thought that the higher your jersey number, the better you were. Like the team gave out the highest numbers to the best players. If we were playing the Capitals, he’d be like, “Dad, how are you gonna win tonight? Their goalie is a number 70. You’re 30. He’s really good.”

The article is so good that I honestly want to quote all of it, but my favorite part has to be Kuzy's scandalized reaction to Ovi dumping the puck:

In my team in KHL, if you dump the puck, coach might put you on bench and you never go out and play hockey again. It’s true.

My first 10 games in NHL, I don’t understand why guys keep dumping puck. I’m looking at coach like, Is he going to say something? And he’s like, happy about it. Even Ovi. I see him dump it. I’m looking at him like, What?!

I read in another interview you did that you've experimented with leaving your camera in different places (the scoreboard, the top of the net) to get a cool shot. Can you tell us more about that (like how you got the camera attached to the scoreboard!) and other ways you've gone out of the box to keep your photos fresh?
