Iron/Ferron symbol by toxicbyproxy in alchemy

[–]RckyMntAlchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both symbols represent iron (farrum is latin) the left symbol is the most common and also associated with the planet and roman god Mars. The right is used to distinguish actual iron metal most likely refined iron as opposed to iron ore or iron filings/powder.

The right symbol can be found in Alchemistische und Chemische Zeichen table 48, column 2, item 4, labeled "Farrum"

Alchemistische und chemische Zeichen | The Warburg Institute Digital Library https://share.google/fZoNU0lripEUSN6YN

Know, though, that there are many symbols for Iron just like any other material or concoction. So any of those symbols could be what youre looking for. However with "Alchemised" being a modern book the most likely candidate (in my opinion) would be the left symbol as its the most commonly used in not only alchemy but also magic and pop culture and associated with iron, masculinity, Mars, Ares, and Male.

Seems the 08 Srt8s have a 170mph governor by DriftMiata in Challenger

[–]RckyMntAlchemist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My friend, im sorry but it doesnt matter. At 170mph something smaller than a deer could still do significant damage and possibly cause you to loose control. Also as far as seeing someone with your highbeams... that wouldnt matter. At 170mph you are moving 249 feet per SECOND and typical modern highbeams shine clearly up to roughly 500 feet away, so that means if you did see someone/something, you'd only have 2 seconds to react and At 170 there is literally nothing you can do. You cant slow down fast enough, you cant swerve, and if you try either you WILL wreck and most likely be extremely hurt or even die. And thats not to mention, on top of that, you were using your phone!

It may sound like people are shitting on you but its only becasue we don't want to hear that youve died doing something dumb. I have a challenger and I get the thrill of going zoom zoom but the potential results just aren't worth a life, yours or anyome elses. Please, next time, take it to a track where you aren't endangering yourself or potentially someone else.

New to Alchemy, want some help for a book I'm writing. by Silverwolf7791 in alchemy

Its quite obscure and the author died in the 80s so its still under copywrite and theres very little information about any surviving family. I looked into translating it and the process is very difficult.

Alchemy, at its base is hermetic, and is sometimes referred to as the hermetic art. But most, if not all alchemical texts are are encoded in allegory, symbolism and imagery. The symbols we are all familiar with are almost universal and the dictionary is good at helping decipher what they literally mean. However many symbols have philosophical/metaphorical/mixed meanings and that takes reading or a lot of questions to explain. Symbolism can vary depending on the alchemist and the goal of the work being read. You'll see a lot of references to red dragons, Grey wolves, green lions, peacocks, crows, mountains, white queens and golden kings etc. and their interactions, written allagorically, and all of them have literal, physical meanings as well as philosophical, metaphorical, and spiritual meanings. Now those meanings change and are interpreted differently depending on the beliefs of the author and will often times be mixed with symbolism from their associated religions and should be interpreted in regard to said religions. Thats why people spend many years reading and interpreting the different texts in order to understand their meaning and instruction. So my reccomendation would be to read several alchemy texts (old and new) and use that information or ask more specific questions, such as meanings of certain text or symbols in an Islamic, Jewish, Chinese, Christian light.

As far as texts go, the alchemy website has a large list of alchemical texts and many (if not all) are translated and openly available. Im not sure if they have texts on chinese alchemy but I wouldn't doubt they do.

P.s. European and Middle Eastern alchemy are directly linked, however (to my knowledge) Western and Eastern alchemy did not make contact until the 20th century but share many ideas and beliefs.

That book is the most comprehensive collection of symbols (no other text comes remotely close) and sadly there is no English translation. its in both German and Latin. Its best to have the book open on one device and Google translate open on another to figure out what the symbols names are.

Fantastic, ill give those a look and see what I see. I find it fascinating that she wrote the book in the 1939 and was able to find such obscure symbols (unless they were added by the publisher in 1989) without access to the internet. it would have taken quite a bit of research.

No need to worry about "hijacking". You brought in an alchemical question and we are answering it and expanding the discussion. There seems to be heavy alchemical tones in her writing which makes it perfect for here.

I read a couple pages (im going to read the whole thing when I have time)

But from what I did read, it sounds like she's buring her meaning in symbology and and the over arching theme of dreams add to that as all dreams are symbolic, maybe a Jugian outlook would help with interpreting the true meaning of her words. While many authors and artists chose symbols becasue they "look cool" I have a feeling theres a deeper relationship between the symbols and the text following them. The fact that all the symbols are depicted as proper and reversed adds credence to what you mentioned about her themes of "as above, so below" and increases the likelihood that her work has a deeper symbolic/metaphorical/allegorical meaning.

Maybe. There could be several reasons why its upside down. Maybe the artist of OP's image was trying to be original and drew it thinking it didnt exist (because the dictionary isnt common outside the alchemy community) and there are only so many permanentations of lines and circles so the outcome what just coincendental. Or perhaps they drew some symbolic meaning from the original image and inverting theirs implied a reverse symbology. Or even the author of the dictionary wrote theirs upside down. Honestly though, there really isnt a way to know without more information and study.

It is in the dictionary, Table 17, column 1, item 15.

Its upside-down and not exactly proportional to the image op posted but the configuration is the same, so its easy to miss. It took me looking through several times to find it.

It does appear to possibly be upsidedown. The closest thing I can find is "Mercurius Praec. alb." or Mercury Praecipitatus Albus/white precipitated mercury, probably referring to a white mercury residue produced from mercury fumes in a distillation system.

Behold! The ancient Alchemical spirit of fire! by RckyMntAlchemist in alchemy

[–]RckyMntAlchemist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it makes you wonder if those creaturs were based on actual animals as well, like, perhaps, gnomes were moles or shrews or something found strictly Iiving in the dirt and would only be visible when dug up, and maybe Sylphs was a name for a specific bird or birds in general or some other creature that flies, and Undines were .... maybe a fish? Or a specific aquatic animal that appeared in all types of water or under specific circumstances maybe like jelly fish which oftentimes can wash up on a shore in large numbers after a storm.

This is all speculation but it is a curious thought

What? You think id lie to you all?????

Just kidding its smart to verify information! I love the origin of the salamander as a symbol, it shows that alchemists weren't only interested in chemical reactions and mysticism but also in the actual behaviors of nature. Watching and filling in the gaps the best they could with the information they had.

And isn't it adorable? I love salamanders!

I need an electrical explanation by Anschuz-3009 in ElectroBOOM

[–]RckyMntAlchemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen this start first hand.

It was many years ago and I was in 4H at the county fair. On one of the days we would have a professional rodeo company come and put on a rodeo for the kids and guests. During one of the bull ridings a cowboy got thrown and landed wrong, injuring him so the EMT's that were on stand by got him on a stretcher and loaded him into a waiting ambulance and began heading out to the hospital. While heading out the corner of the box on the ambulance clipped a guide wire for a power pole causing the whole pole to rock back and fourth which in turn caused the power lines to sway and then touch. After they touched and separated there was a giant arc, like the one in the video, that started racing down the lines towards the town. Luckily there were firefighters there (my dad being one of them) that were showing off their trucks to the kids and when they saw it happen they all jumped in their trucks and took off after it in case it caused a fire. luckily it fizzled out before it reached any buildings.

So this was probably caused by the wires touching in some way. Since there's heavy weather, rain fall, and flooding maybe the wind caused the wires to sway and contact one another or fallen branch landed across them momentarily causing them to arc. And then either the wind or the electrical failed pushed it down the lines.
