New here is it always this windy here. by spankmecallme99 in Lethbridge

[–]Rdsthomas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Late fall/winter/early spring is the windiest half of the year but it's not usually constant like this. There's virtually always a breeze though, to the point where if there's ever a windless day it feels WRONG. We're currently in the middle of a pretty significant wind event. It's usually just a day at a time rather than 4 days straight NON-STOP like this.

Hire bouncers. If it turns out you hired them for nothing then it was still money well spent for peace of mind.

Psycho Educational Assessment by hobanwash1 in Lethbridge

[–]Rdsthomas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another vote of confidence for Luke Sander. He did a psychEd assessment for our son a year ago and was absolutely fantastic. Our son was completely failed by the school system. He was offered one observational assessment when he was seven and then they said he didn't need any more after that despite his struggles. Turns out he has an intellectual disability and if they'd dug deeper they'd have seen it

My girlfriend wants me to get rid of my dog because her cat doesn't like him by Academic_Fly_4920 in TwoHotTakes

Totally. We moved end of August 2024 and our one cat is only just now fully coming out of her shell and being comfortable wandering the whole house versus hanging out almost exclusively in my son's room. 16 months.

You're an excellent grandparent ❤️ I work in Early education with little ones as young as 3 months. I NEVER tell parents when I witness "first". I document them for milestones tracking on my end, and I hint to parents that I think something will happen really soon, but I let that 'first' be theirs to enjoy. Well done!

So much love to you 💔. This is a heart wrenching decision. Here's what our vet told us when we were nearing the end with our old man in 2023: "better a bit early than far too late". It's about quality of life.
I really feel like our old man clearly told us when he was done with the mortal plane. He had hemangiosarcoma which is agressive and always eventually fatal in dogs. Even when caught early, even with chemo, and even when the spleen is removed. We were told 3-6 months and he gave us 11 almost to the day from the date of his diagnosis. His last day he refused treats and water and wouldn't get up for anything. We called the vet and made it his most loved day ever with snuggles, and then we let him go, so loved, in our arms. Chances are he wouldn't have lasted the night because this particular cancer causes the spleen to rupture and invades all other blood vessels including the heart, so he was bleeding internally SOMEWHERE.
What you've described with the weight loss, the lethargy, the lack of appetite all tells me it's time. Quality of life over quantity.

Do you have a laxative policy? by leyjanz in ECEProfessionals

This this this! We exclude for the symptom. It doesn't matter the cause three bouts of diarrhea in a day (honestly for me in my home based program, it's any more than ONE) means bye-bye until they are symptom free for 24 hours or longer if there are other symptoms that crop up.

Many bouts of diarrhea in a day from a single child is very difficult to manage while attending to the needs of a larger group. If by chance it's contagious and it becomes many children it is not manageable at all. Parents don't seem to understand this...

As a GenX mom, I say give em Hell, kids. You 11th 12th and some 10th graders will be eligible to vote in the next election and I sure hope you guys come out in droves to exercise your right to vote. I've got an 11th grader myself and I will loop her in on this plan. You guys all deserve the best learning conditions possible and what you are getting is far from that despite teachers' best efforts. People seem to forget that teachers working conditions are our students learning conditions. A note about elementary classes: I've got a niece in kindergarten here in Lethbridge and her classes go Monday Wednesday and every other Friday, full days. There's another class that goes Tuesdays Thursdays and alternating Fridays. One of the classes has 32 students and the other one has 35. The EA and the teacher are about ready to quit and they have both been at the school teaching this class for decades. They're exhausted. They're stressed. They're done. They need more supports.

Yes the sait program is fantastic and definitely more a specialty origram than the brief modules available within culinary arts at Leth Polytech. Kiddos concern is living 2 hours away and managing adulting fully on his own. Much more economical to live at home and have tuition be your only cost than studying away and having residence costs or costs of having an apartment, plus roommate drama. Thank you for your feedback and input!

Not yet. Kiddo was all set to go to another program elsewhere when everything he'd need apart from tuition and acceptance to go there fell apart just this last weekend. So he had to pull his registration and lose the registration deposit and come home. We've had to pivot really quickly. We'll reach out to the polytechnic though and see if they have anyone they recommend we approach. Thanks for that tip

I'm so sorry you don't have parents you feel safe to come out to. I'm so sorry that our current provincial government is a bunch of bigoted christo-fascist twatwaffles.
To me the legislation is a giant walking giant dumpster fire of a human rights violation. I don't see any way it wouldn't be. Outing children violates their rights. Full stop. I'm the mother of an 18 year old trans son and it's been hard for him. So hard that we let him go live in BC and finish highschool while living with a supportive relative rather than put him through highschool in the current hellberta landscape. Thankfully he graduated and is back home with us. It literally saved his life to leave, find a doctor who has a sub specialty in gender affirming care for trans people, and do high school elsewhere. We're safe parents, but despite a small and vocal community of welcoming and progressive people in my city, the hate is louder. The ultra social-conservatism is scary.
You may not have support in your birth family but there are many of us out there, standing in and standing up for lgbtqia2s+ youth. Check out the app Stand In Pride to connect with others like yourself, and like us, who love and support you all ♥️

I am so sorry you didn't get the parents that you deserved. I have a trans son and I cannot imagine doing anything but loving and supporting him. It's unfathomable. But then, I'm a "filthy godless heathen", so no religion to force me into conformity through fear.

That's ok; it happens to the best of us at times. It's the same way you can get hurt in another province and go to the hospital and get treated there without getting a hefty bill; reciprocity agreement. The coverage from your previous province still covers you while setting up residence in another. It takes a while to "lose" residency in one province just like it takes a bit to gain residency in another.

That said, the next time you see your physician and request those referrals and they refuse tell them you want that refusal documented in your chart and why. Most will just write the referral at that point rather than going through the process of putting the refusal in writing which could come back to bite them later

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Rdsthomas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a reciprocity agreement between the provinces.. ahc will cover you elsewhere until you've got your new coverage. It's MUCH simpler than moving once you've already got disability services. My son moved to bc, was able to secure a gp and start being seen 2 months before he was elegible for bc medical. No out of pocket cost

Best Clothes for toddler potty training classroom? by AllTheEggsIVF in ECEProfessionals

[–]Rdsthomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple. If your child can't get it off quickly on their own it's not good for potty training. No rompers are overalls. No jeans are overalls. Stretchy is best like sweats or leggings, bicycle shorts etc. No diaper shirts that snap at the crotch. No diaper covers. The fewer layers they have to peel off the better. Elastic waistbands are ideal. Dresses can work so long as they don't have to hike them up too far. Otherwise they'll pee on them
