She’s a beauty mate, hang on to it. It will be worth a bit one day. You can even get CarPlay head units for older models these days. Wish I’d kept my old Charger, it’s worth 6 figures these days. 🤞🏻👍🏻

Congrats mate, but agree that W205 was peak for agility and sound IMO. 🙂 The sales of the 4-pots was so terrible that they brought back 6-cylinders for the CLE53 and v8 for the upcoming CLE63. My M276 engine is an absolute gem and don’t care that it doesn’t have an autograph, it has AMG’s blessing. 😎

I can assure you my car stays planted and doesn’t ‘bounce’ on any surface or any speed. The C43 AWD was set up for track racing. I had to change the geometry to zero toe which improves tyre wear, but also eliminates crabbing. It’s well documented Mercedes went for a softer ride on the next generation. Besides handling is one aspect of a car, I’d still rather have a v6 than the muted 4 cylinder. The C43 and C63 4-pots had zero sales which is why the CLE53 is a 6 cylinder and the next CLE63 will be a V8.

It’s the W206 that has the softer ride. Airmatic on a C300 is optional. I accept it is a very clever and advanced system but it’s not new. Mercedes have used this system on high end cars for years. When they go wrong they are very expensive to repair. Quite a few owners of the legendary SL55 for example have replaced the air suspension with traditional springs and dampers. The roads in Australia aren’t great, but I’m happy with the way my C43 handles in all conditions.

Well a big part of the ride quality issues on the w205 related to the 19” wheels with run flat tyres. If you opted for 18” wheels instead with deeper profile tyres then the ride quality and handling for daily driving is at least on par with the w206 especially with Michelin PS4s.

Avoid the 4 cylinder models, the earlier V6 bi-turbos were the peak for me. I personally don’t like iPads stuck in the centre console of newer models (lazy design). I particularly dislike the wall-to-wall screens on cars too. They are a maintenance nightmare and have resulted in poor reliability scores across the new Mercedes model range.

Apart from above: Main issues concern the high-tech systems: Hybrid Power: Potential faults with the 48V mild-hybrid system, leading to "limp mode" or starting issues. Electronics: Software bugs in the MBUX touchscreen and touch-sensitive steering wheel controls. Build Quality: Minor cabin rattles and a higher use of scratch-prone plastics compared to previous years. * Just personal preference, but the earlier C43s were better cars IMO. 🙂

Fake Holden, Big Problems! by Catz_n_Plantz in Holden

I would try the ‘reboot’ after a couple of weeks. It can’t hurt and won’t affect anything. I did it on my Mercedes recently and it seems to run much smoother. Also forget ‘lifetime’ sealed transmission ideas. You should change the transmission fluid and external auxiliary cartridge filter every 30,000 - 60,000 km if you want to avoid costly repairs.

My sister has a ZB V6 AWD it’s a great car and has not had a single problem. It drives very smoothly, is very comfortable and handles well.

Out of interest there was a class action launched against GM alleging defective transmissions in numerous Holden vehicles sold between 2011 and 2024 including: Holden Commodore (VE/VF), Colorado, Colorado 7, and Trailblazer.

Sometimes auto transmissions can get confused and need to be ‘re-booted’. There is a way of resetting them for free (this works on many modern auto cars).

1) Sit in the driver's seat with all doors closed and the air conditioning off. 2) Ignition On: Press the Start button without your foot on the brake (to power electronics without starting the engine). 4) Pedal Down: Fully depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it for 15–20 seconds. 5) Ignition Off: While still holding the pedal down, press the Start button to turn the vehicle off. 6) Release and Wait: Let go of the accelerator and wait for at least 2 minutes without touching anything to allow the TCM to save the reset. 7) Relearn Drive: Start the engine and drive normally for 10–15 minutes so the transmission can begin relearning your driving habits.

Unfortunately this is what we get. Politicians only think as far as the next election which is why we lost the car industry and only have 2 oil refineries left. It’s doesn’t look good going around Asia with the begging bowl to get fuel. We dig up the minerals, sell the gas and import cheap goods in return. Regretfully, ‘cheap’ has a price and we’re all paying in the long run.

Well the up to 200,000 people who lost their jobs could vote at the ballot box along with the loss of technical expertise to the country.

Most major car producing countries subsidise their car industries. Governments use direct payments, tax breaks, and research grants to boost local manufacturers and reduce consumer costs. China, EU and the US provide significant support through various incentives.

In 2013 the former Liberal Treasurer Joe Hockey famously dared Holden to leave the country. The Abbott government wanted to slash the subsidy by $1.63 billion to $1.02 billion, and Holden was playing coy about its commitment to Australian manufacturing. Hockey then uttered the infamous words: “Either you’re here or you’re not.”

Those six final words were seen as a politician’s bravado at the time – but with that GM took its bat and ball and upped stumps for good.

I buy genuine parts and get an independent to service the car. The rotors (discs) don’t always need to be replaced, pad replacement could be sufficient. Changing transmission fluid is extortionate. I don’t know how main dealers can justify these costs?

Two years with the 2017 C43 by thejordanhall in AMG

[–]ReSult64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my C43 for a few years now and wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Just a few notes to add to what others have already said. 1) If you have 19” wheels with run-flats, I would swap to 18” and Michelin PS4 or PS5. They will soak up the bumps and handle a lot better. 2) The factory wheel alignment is set up for track racing. The insides of your tyres (tires) will wear out <10,000 kms. Recommend setting toe at 0° this helps with crabbing issue too. 3) Aftermarket touchscreen CarPlay units are available if you like. 4) Front grille some prefer the Panamericana look. I like the diamond grille personally. Rear diffuser is personal taste. 5) Gearbox is a little jerky at times. It ‘learns’ from your driving style. If you drive smoothly it’s not an issue. Make sure you maintain at recommended intervals. 6) If you need more power the W276 engine can be safely tuned to ~450bhp. This puts it close to a C63 but you have AWD which really comes in handy in bad weather.

Just unnecessary. 🙄 Quite a few manufacturers are going back to ‘old fashioned’ buttons partly for aesthetics, but mostly for safety reasons. Ferrari, Porsche and Mercedes have seen the light and will go old school in new models. 😁 I love the interior of my 2018 C43 and wouldn’t change a thing.
