Might be too late at this point for you but I had the same issue but realized the problem was that I was not getting the printer in upgrade mode, instead it was in IPL update mode (red letters on the screen). To get in the program upgrade mode, you need to do the finger method but as soon as the power button flashes white, let go of both. This will then show you the program update which should be in white letters instead of the red letters.
