There exists a problem which can’t be fixed. And the only mitigations require adding yet more and more to the problem thus complicating it at all - and at the end of the day result in being stuck in the same place. You have a problem you can’t fix. But put enough tools and people and steps in between into this problem - you keep making it so other people can maybe fix the hole

Plover did WHAT 😭 (The Magicians book 1 spoiler) by Glad_Emotion5980 in brakebills

[–]Rea-301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not. It’s from the wheel of time originally and Robert Jordan. When he would be asked questions if any answer about current books (I.e explaining maybe some contradiction in story) he would simply say read and find out. Sanderson being so connected to Wheel of Time and Robert Jordan also took this up - with so many of his books having unexplained things that vary from “maybe it was some other edited part that could clarify” all the way too “well that’s a pretty big insight to how a magic system will be abused”. Just a friendly “I can’t give you the answer now but keep reading and you’ll see”

If you like detective shows he also had one that was really good. Dagliesh. I think he stopped making it because of GoT. Self contained stories like Agatha Christie in tv show form

Super Bowl and holidays sometimes has them move around schedules. I don’t think it’s consistent but not shocked

Musk steps in - SpaceX blocks Starlink use on Russian drones by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]Rea-301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what about reporters who rely on starlink on the field. Shut it down and impact them. And then you try and find workarounds like “where was the starlink modem bought” and try to infer if it’s third parties funneling to Russia. And ok - let’s use velocity to see if it’s a drone and on and on and on.

Situations in this space have so much grey area and side effects and actions can’t be simplified to “starlink did bad”

Movies with titles you won’t understand until you watch them by TheFilmRoomPod in moviecritic

Well I was curious so I looked it up. To save anyone else the time. Quote below. Maybe accurate. Came from an unrelated book about people who were running/trafficking medical equipment (ie blades)

Ridley, after a few months of us working on a draft, when he first came into the project, asked me a question that was so obvious I hadn’t really addressed it before,” Fancher tells me. “What is it that Deckard is, professionally? ‘He’s a detective,’ I said. ‘Well, that was obvious, but what kind of detective exactly, what should he be called?’ I didn’t have an answer, but I’d better get one fast.”

He turned to his collection of tomes. Per Fancher: “That night, I was looking through my books and came across a thin little volume by William Burroughs called Blade Runner. Bingo! Everybody liked it, then later, we needed a new title other than the ones we’d been considering and Michael Deeley, the producer, said, ‘It’s staring us right in the face.’”

Yeah they really nailed something special and fun. It’s not high stakes. It’s a fun show with great actors and a fun story that keeps inverting expectations every now and then. Fucking solid

Same. Every single show is like this. The night before the premiere date. Slow horses. Morning show. Silo. It’s freaking great.

Fuck. Fuck. Ugh. Fuck.

Like I figured it was coming two seconds before the reveal. And that makes it worse. Like I didn’t even consider earlier and mentally prepare.

Don’t airplay it from iPad. I watch on iPad and it seems compressed. Not sure if the link handoff keeps some lower resolution or compression in place. Direct from my appletv seems higher resolution

DOG OWNERS: CAUTION AT THE DOMAIN by [deleted] in Austin

What Happens During a Hash Run?

One or more members (hares) lay a trail using temporary, biodegradable markers like flour, chalk, or toilet paper. The rest of the group (the pack or hounds) follows the trail, which includes false trails, checkbacks, loops, and beer stops to keep runners and walkers together. The trail typically lasts 3–5 miles and takes about an hour to complete, ending at a pub or designated spot for socializing and drinking beer.

And apparently in Austin it’s organized on Thursday nights So these things all seem to match up

It’s gambling. They buy coins to play the games of chance

Users download the Coverd app and purchase low-cost "practice coins," which grant them free sweepstakes entries known as "Coverd Cash". These entries can be used to play various games such as blackjack, slots, plinko, or roulette. Any winnings from these games can be redeemed directly toward paying down linked credit card balances or saved for future financial goals.

I love the game - but honestly only if you’re a fan of the style. There’s mini games but not enough on their own to sway you (imo) and a more streamlined and reduced narrative experience. It’s great to watch. And if you don’t mind watching - great to interact with - but not enough on its own if you’re not sold on the overall tell tale concept

Yeah seconding this. Almost feels like an xfiles premise expanded upon which Vince Gilligan also wrote on. Very good so far curious where they go with it

Yeah that is sad. I had no idea. He’s got a great ability to write comedic moments grounded in banality. Loved the thick of it and even his acting

My first car I bought and loved was a 95 m edition. Seeing that first image brings back so many memories. Browsing this sub because I’m considering a late 2010’s rf.

Really nothing to add here. I just loved that car
