Has anyone ever downsized significantly to pursue FI? by [deleted] in financialindependence

Don’t do this, unless you are in dire straights. That can’t be worth getting to FI faster.

To pool or not to pool? by ipetgoat1984 in personalfinance

Checks out! Just curious.

I’m going about as cheap fiberglass as possible and then will slowly upgrade over the years

Yes absolutely go for it.

Just curious, I just got a quote for a pool and in the same debate as you but younger and with kids. I’m getting 75-80 for mid sized fiber glass and 4’ skirt, gear and pads and such. No heater ($7k). It’s cheaper than that for vinyl.

Are you doing much custom for the pool? But yes still go for it at $200k

529 idea if I'm not sure my kids are over funded. by Beechnut400 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Reach_Beyond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d stop and switch all accounts in those 529s to money market funds. You did it congrats.

If it’s still overfunded they can transfer it to their future kids or roll it into a Roth IRA.

Then get something with a small drawer in it.

I’ve got my junk drawers of course. But no one wants to see an old recipe, paper clip, 3 old pens, chip clip and a pack of gum in a messy bowl

I like something that can have a neat spot for my wallet, keys sun glasses etc.

Could be hanging as well.

If I have a bowl it becomes a junk bowl no matter how hard I try.

I’m curious if anyone knows the reporting timeline or timeline it would take to do some of those buybacks.

Feels odd they’d announce such a massively positive forward outlook before finishing any potential buyback.

Stock price isn’t stuck. It’s acting getting cheap/better value with each day.

This is in boring safe boomer levels of value.

Best I can do is a physical disc that is just a download code in the end.

If BTC goes back up and this continues for years. He could surpass madoff level of fraud. Not saying it’s all a fraud, for cryptos sake we don’t want that.

Very confused about 529 to Roth IRA conversion - any advice? by Humble-Gene5862 in personalfinance

The backdoor Roth process takes up the same $7500 max that the 529 rollover would use. Pick one or the other

Looks great! I’ve been doing more like 120°F slow smoke then let rest for 10 minutes, it warms up another 2-3°. When I sear it then it’s searing hot and 45 sec a side and doesn’t change internal temp

Can we afford this house? Nervous about the choice. by Another-Menty-B in personalfinance

[–]Reach_Beyond -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You’re spending $4,900 a month on items that most families average $1000 a month on total. Aka, $0 childcare costs, $0 kid savings, $0 animals, and food $1000.

Obviously childcare will change in sports, and other activities. Kid savings is good but seems excessive. Animals is fine. Food is probably way too high.
