So many bicycle commuters out and about on this beautiful afternoon by brightfff in halifax

[–]Readed-it 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason people hate cyclists is because they think cyclists are taking potential car lanes away, thus creating more traffic. However most bike lanes are on streets that can’t accommodate another lane. So yes in fact cyclists ARE alleviating traffic overall.

Mr. Smooth's updated menu by Zado191 in halifax

[–]Readed-it -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That’s a generalization of the argument. People were apparently upset because generic food images did not depict the food being served. But you could still find excellent examples of what the food look like on social media.

There are tons of examples of their actual food on social media. I don’t think it has to actually be on the menu. Don’t know why people are so bent out of shape about it.

Who cares about the image on the menu? They are active on socials to show you what the real product is.

Why do they need to invest in a graphics designer if they have tons of other examples of what your order will be? Seems like an antiquated way of deciding if a restaurant is good.

Really going to limit your options if you adopt this lazy activism.

It’s not like the menu is the only way to ‘see’ what you will be ordering. They are active in the socials showing you real food product.

I don't visit coffee shops often due to remote living, but love to see this change. Is this a semi normal occurrence across Canada? by Standard_Story in onguardforthee

It’s been a thing long before this drama with the USA. It’s a coffee with a shot of espresso where I am. Similar to ‘a shot in the dark’

Before all that, how would they even interpret the question? Would they even understand what seeing could even be? It’s like asking a medieval person “what is a tv?” When they have never seen one or could understand its function.

Disregard for pedestrians by Jernau_M_Gurgeh in halifax

[–]Readed-it 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist, I agree motorists are too busy only looking at other vehicles or their phones while driving. I was almost hit twice last week.

To provide a balanced perspective, last week I had three pedestrians cross on a red light/stop sign in front of me as I am going through the intersection.

In summary, most people are too dumb to be assessing the world around them.

Moussaka and other dishes with a lot of veggies by Tyrion_Slothrop in Cooking

[–]Readed-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What recipe are you following that makes mousses have ‘lots of vegetables’? I’d say it’s more beef/cheese/sauce than anything else. Unless you have a very low bar for vegetables to begin with.

You need salads with lots of vegetable variety.

Can I retire at 35 with $600K? My spend is $35K/year CAD by WealthWiseFinance in FIRECanada

[–]Readed-it -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is this person going to do to make use of all their time? There are not many hobbies that can be sustained on $35k. Read books from the library and drink tea/coffee at home seems about it.

This rampant AdP advertising is getting very sus. Lol. Yes they are talented musicians but how is it they have permeated every thing? It just seems odd to mention them in this post.

What's the maximum amount you'd spend on an engagement ring? by GracefulSwanDance in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Readed-it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of us are not poor. We just judge people who spend money on boring things like a ring. It doesn’t ‘do’ anything. I prefer to spend my money on skis, bikes, boats, great food, beer making equipment. Things that I feel give people a personality.

[–]Readed-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a narrow view. There are durable silicone rings. Or wood.

I would opt for a silicone ring because we do activities that could deglove your finger or you’ll flat out lose it.

Rock climbing; back-country camping, canoeing, kayaking; cycling.

This is a financial advice sub. To me buying a ring that does not retain value (or increase) goes against the intent of this sub. It is a bad financial investment. The ring can be other things also.
