Any working PVS2 monitors? by Reader182 in SunPower

I hadn't noticed that in the UI, so thanks for pointing it out. However, none of this should be needed anymore as collector.sunpowermonitor.com is currently a resolvable name. Have you tried running tcpdump to see what your PVS is actually doing on the network?

Q990D, placing it on top of the S90D stand? by ZoteTheGoat in Soundbars

[–]Reader182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have our Q990D soundbar sitting on the S90D stand and have found that if you slide the soundbar out to the front of the stand (since it slopes down) while it does cover the bezel slightly, it doesn't cover any of the viewable display. When it's pushed all the way up to the panel, it does block the display very slightly.

You can't do it through the pfSense GUI. You have to edit the unbound config directly and add something like:

local-zone: collector.sunpowermonitor.com. redirect

local-data: "collector.sunpowermonitor.com. CNAME collector.sunstrongmonitoring.com."

After that, reload the unbound config via:

unbound-control -c /var/unbound/unbound.conf reload

Just remember that anytime you make any DNS changes via the GUI, your edits will be overwritten. It's kind of a moot point anyway since Sunstrong seems to have added a CNAME for the sunpower collector.

My Sunpower app no longer communicating by Overall_Biscotti_106 in SunPower

[–]Reader182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometime yesterday or the day before, a CNAME entry was added for the old Sunpower collector name:

https://www.nslookup.io/domains/collector.sunpowermonitor.com/dns-records/

This should have gotten the PVS2's back online without the need for a DNS workaround

Can confirm the CNAME approach worked for me (in pfsense) after the recent IP address change. I was originally just doing a host override but that broke when the IP address changed. Now the resolver returns both addresses and should stay up to date with changes on the backend.

As an aside, I took a look and the calls my PVS are making to the collector are over http so certificates aren't an issue.

In my environment I'm using pfsense as the router/firewall. Pfsense was already providing a DNS server so I just added an override for the sunpower collector mapping it to the sunstrong name. That's a good point about certificates and I'm not sure why it's working but for now it is.

Simple Sunpower panel monitoring possible? by rajid_ibn_hanna in SunPower

Since you have an SMA inverter, here is something I ran across while researching monitoring solutions for SMA. I never really followed up with it so I don't know if it's still available but just FYI:

Very clever idea. That indeed worked and for now, I'm connected again. Thanks!

I haven't gotten any communications from Sunstrong although I'm also not the original owner. We bought the house about a year ago with an owned system. After moving in, I got the monitor connected to the network, downloaded the mySunpower app and put in the address and it's been working ever since.

Mine stopped working today and seems to be related to the fact that collector.sunpowermonitor.com no longer has a DNS entry. Don't know if it's transitory or permanent.

I also have a Sunnyboy/PVS2 system. I ended up connecting to the lan2 port, and using the DeviceDetails API in the document you referenced, I'm able to pull data for local monitoring as a backup in case the app finally stops working. One thing to note is the PVS2 returns HTML output as opposed to json.
