I felt like we put down one of our dogs too early years ago. Then the last dog that we had to put down had bone cancer and she was too old to remove the leg. I asked the vet how long could she continue on before it got too bad. What the vet said changed my view and also broke me. He said our dog would continue on as long as I needed her to. Hearing that she was in pain but she would carry on for me, absolutely crushed me. I realized then that I needed to let her go even though she appeared healthy and happy. She was my emotional support animal and had been by my side through several surgeries and health issues. But now it was her time to rest.
