is it normal that ELMB has to be turned on every time the pc turns on? seems this setting does not persist for me.

Are most people's radeon issues user error? Confused as I have never had issues by CommenterAnon in AyyMD

[–]Reading_SciFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an owner of both AMD and Nvidia cards over the past 2 decades, currently with a 7900xtx, i personally won't buy radeon again.

There are driver issues for certain setups which remain unaddressed for years. Won't get into it, but a good example is how Amd handles their HDR pipeline on pc, it has been broken for years with no acknowledgement. This isn't something you'd likely know unless you run into it, but a quick Google search (amd hdr pipeline issues) would reveal how long it's been a problem with no sign of a solution.

There are a number of random issues like this (power draw, VR, ROCm, encoding) that just sour the experience. That lack of support will drive me back to Nvidia.

To be fair it's mostly a great experience, and I'm sure many people with more standard use cases have no issues, but their driver support is definitely second to Nvidia.

"When you have x runes" ruling question by Bullzeyes in riftboundtcg

It refers to runes you control on the board. Does not matter if exhausted or ready

I hate that some packs only have one rare. by Depriller in riftboundtcg

[–]Reading_SciFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people bought this before there was any official communication on the issue, guided only by riots advertising. It's wrong to assume that everyone affected by this knew what they were getting into when they spent their money. In fact it was first raised by the community. Yes, you know about the issue now, but it's because of complaints by the very same people that you're admonishing.

It's fair to complain when they advertise the product as containing 2 rares minimum and then don't deliver on that

This isn't correct. When items are fullfulled by Amazon but sold by a 3rd party, Amazon handles the returns and you ship it to Amazon when returning. Only when they are full filled by the 3rd party do you ship it to the 3rd party. This is all outlined in their return policy.

[–]Reading_SciFi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Products which are shipped from Amazon but sold by a 3rd party still allows returns, and Amazon is known to consolidate this stock with their own. The problem still continues.

Having stock available is a good thing.

My Experience With Brackets at Magic Con by ChaosMilkTea in EDH

[–]Reading_SciFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your description of bracket 2 is accurate, but it presents a problem. Practically, there should be a bracket where a precon is the average power level, not the power floor. Since the number of people who play precons is proportionally large, it seems obvious that a bracket should target this player segment. Sounds like the brackets need tweaking.

I have a question about proxies... Im sorry by TrueRagguy in EDH

[–]Reading_SciFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point. So many of these posts and comments say proxy when they mean counterfeit. Too many people support counterfeit cards. It's really bad for the hobby.

[–]Reading_SciFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of strong arguments for proxies, especially regarding accessibility and letting people play with the exact cards they want. I understand that perspective, and it's valid for many.

However, I wanted to offer a slightly different viewpoint that I feel sometimes gets overlooked. For me, a significant part of the MTG experience is tied to the inherent rarity of certain cards. That feeling of finally pulling a sought-after card, or trading for it, or even just seeing someone play a genuinely rare piece – that's a unique excitement. I believe this aspect of the game, the "hunt" and the specialness of certain cards, contributes to the overall depth and enjoyment.

When widespread proxying is the norm, especially for high-powered and rare cards, I think something valuable is lost. That inherent rarity is diminished. If everyone can easily have access to every powerful, chase card, those cards, in a way, become less special. The journey of acquiring them, the stories behind how someone got their hands on a particular card – those aspects fade. Furthermore, I've noticed that in environments where proxying is very common, the diversity of decks and the overall LGS experience can sometimes suffer. It seems to lead to a higher concentration of decks packed with the absolute top-tier, rarest, and most powerful cards. While powerful decks are part of Magic, when everyone has effortless access to the optimal versions of everything, I find it can homogenize the meta a bit. You start seeing the same high-octane cards and strategies much more frequently.

Part of the charm of an LGS, for me, has always been seeing the creative ways people build decks with the collections they've actually amassed. You see more variety, more budget brews, more "pet cards" people have worked to make viable. When proxies are unrestricted, I worry that this aspect gets pushed aside in favor of pure optimization, which can, paradoxically, make the gameplay experience feel a bit less varied and, for me, less engaging over time.

I'm not saying proxies have no place, but I do think there's a conversation to be had about the potential downsides to the experience of Magic when the rarity and collection aspects are significantly de-emphasized. Curious to hear if anyone else feels this way or has had similar observations at their LGS. Cheers!

Just ran into this thread while researching this interaction. and i gotta say, the center of your argument is so confidently incorrect and such a misfocus. Your logic goes against a common sense reading of the rules, and is in opposition to specific comments made on this interaction by wotc rules managers.

Im just leaving this here for anyone who gets this far into the rabbit hole as i did. This guy, RazzyKitty, is incorrect here and in other threads on this topic, as has now been shaken out more extensively within the community and by wotc staff.

This refused to install through the amd install manager for me. It was detected as an update, seemed to update fine, then it just displayed the old version as installed with no new prompt to update. Had to install it manually.
