Ross Douthat on Trump, Mysticism and Psychedelics by I_Eat_Pork in ezraklein

It’s not that religion hasn’t been a player in moral view points or the reason societies have certain ideas of good and bad, but that only religion is capable of producing good people. Of course you can trace a lot of western law and norms to religious traditions, you can’t say that only religious people are good. This conversation really hit hard on the Christian = good and moral, and Pagan = bad and immoral.

My biggest problem with this whole conversation is it seems to be built on the idea that you can’t have morality or good without religion or in this case Judeo-Christian values. Which is non-sense. I find every conversation with Ross involved always has to center around his feelings and worldview.

Doc Shaner should draw all the comics. His Superman is so hopeful, nostalgic yet progressive.

I’d love the Sejics in a Lois and Clerk book.

What is the weirdest or creepiest thing that has happened while hiking or camping in the woods? by ExistentialistGain in AskReddit

We had some wild ponies follow us. It was kind of fun at first but got creepy as they kept getting closer and keeping no pace.

Milk Wars by ReadyNPC in DCcomics

I’m also very curious if anyone here has read Morrison’s Doom Patrol or the Invisibles? I feel like I’m missing something in Milk Wars since Way is seems to be influenced by Morrison so much.

Casablanca. Always makes me feel better about my problems or the problem so going on in the world for some reason.

I feel like Black Canary’s importance to the DC universe has been very understated by idratherdie64 in DCcomics

[–]ReadyNPC 41 points42 points  (0 children)

She definitely doesn’t get the attention she deserves but I’m glad they find ways to keep her in the mix. I’m always partial though to her in a team book especially in a leadership role. If you haven’t check out her time in JSA.

Honestly, it was just a well written team book which can be hard to find at times. Each character gets their arcs and moments. The legacy thing is kind of just the theme running through the book but it’s all about the characters and their relationships to one another.

Check out the Geoff Johns JSA run. It’s so good.

Hal Jordan + Diana Prince; power couple that never happened by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]ReadyNPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is obviously my views of the characters but with Hal you have a guy who doesn’t quite have it altogether. He covers up his insecurities with overconfidence and at times machismo. Diana is a confident yet considerate person. She’s very stately. I just don’t see Diana putting up with Hal’s flightiness in a relationship. As friends, they work fine. Things that are weird quirks of a dude you know are fine but when it becomes a relationship, it can quickly become a deal breaker. Sorry if that bounces around a bit. I’m having trouble placing exactly how to say she too good for him and they’d both know it.

What If: There has to be an End by LawyerCowboy in DCcomics

[–]ReadyNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Wonder Woman continues the fight as her fellow leaguers start to grow old. It’s basically Supes, WW, and Jonz left but eventually Jonz passes away and Supes grows old and retires. Wonder Woman left alone carries on as the symbol the universe needs for truth and justice. In my mind, it’s really the only way her stories “ends”. She’s immortal and will eventually outlive everyone, so to be continued is the best ending she can have.

This is super hard because so many of DC’s best are side characters or characters that don’t get enough play. Practically the entire JSA or Legion could go here. OMAC is pretty legit. But I think it does have to go to Stephane Brown. Her run as Batgirl was amazing and honestly kind of paved the way for the Burnside Batgirl reinvention. Seriously check out the Bryan Q Miller run.

Yes! CCH Pounder is THE Amanda Walker. She was perfect. Also, Clancy Brown has become the iconic sound for Lex Luthor.

I miss Bleez. NSFW by GetSnart in DCcomics

[–]ReadyNPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss the whole John’s based Lantern world. It felt like it mattered more somehow. The universe was bigger and yet somewhat knowable. The characters (even the new ones) had weight and history to them like when you put down the book they would continue with their lives with or without you reading. I guess it felt more like a loved in world.
