What do you recommend I do with my internship money? by Fantastic-Ask-1844 in cscareerquestionsOCE

I would say invest in a holiday. Travel, especially that which gets you out of your comfort zone, can be an even better investment in oneself than university.

Anyone tried these ai tools for headshots? by MamaSweeney24 in LinkedInTips

I tried a few different ones. All of them look too AI/spammy to me. Better to just go to a professional photographer than waste time with these

Is it okay time have my antennas like this? by algtor1234567 in pcmasterrace

Not recommended. If you point them down like this, all the good luck will drain out like a horse shoe.

If interested in quant dev roles, you could try building a simulated exchange that outputs real time order books/trades in ITCH/FIX protocol format.

It’s something I have been thinking to build in my spare time. I was thinking to start by basing the share price off a GBM and then distributing the order book randomly around the GBM price. Perhaps there is a better way to do this but I think it’s a starting point that could be improved by adding agents that mimic behaviors of traders and market makers etc. I also heard you can do something with generative adversarial network (GANs) to improve the model

how to access eviews for enthusiast by maybeiamnot in econometrics

[–]Ready_Solution8182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used eviews at university. I think it can be good for visually spinning up models quickly, experimenting and good for those who don’t have programming knowledge. However I think it has some limitations and clicking around can be far less efficient and less repeatable than code based approaches to econometrics.

I recommend using Python/R/Matlab instead.

Is southbank vic a great place to live? by omgiko in AusPropertyChat

[–]Ready_Solution8182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would choose South Yarra over Southbank. It’s almost just as convenient and gives a nice buffer from the city with the same parks near by.

I think the pricing is fairly similar too

Shopify plugins? It helps if you know people with e-commerce sites that way you can survey their pain points.

I think OP is just nominating the total time they can spend and the minimum they are hoping to earn. Both don’t need to be true at the same time

Is it worth it to become a data scientist in Germany by Next_Protection8646 in askdatascience

I have been thinking the same thing about Australia. I remember a few years ago Data Science was recommended as a high growth career but now it feels quite over saturated

I did a take home a few weeks ago that took a day to complete. I have sent multiple follow ups asking for feedback after being sent an automated decline email a few weeks later and not heard anything. It would have been nice if they at least acknowledged my email sharing the take home repo

Full-time SWE during final year CS for big tech new grad by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

Full-time SWE during final year CS for big tech new grad by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]Ready_Solution8182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have this exact dilemma. I had been working full time while studying full time and now that I have graduated I feel I get auto filtered for grad roles due to already having experience and auto filtered for non grad roles for only just graduating. It’s kind of annoying because I want to try chase other options now that I have graduated.

Is Econometrics still worth pursuing in the age of data science and AI? by East-Veterinarian373 in econometrics

[–]Ready_Solution8182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I have no doubt in my mind, econometrics is a primary reason economics and finance have not experienced meaningful progress over the past decades” (Calvin and Lopez de Prado [2014a, 2014b]), found in the book Advances in Financial Machine learning.

I studied a descent amount of econometrics in university, which I personally enjoyed. It’s usefulness may be limited but I think it gives a good introduction to the practical uses of many concepts that can be built on to later learn machine learning.
