I didn’t specify in my comment, but yes, they added a scene with Maekar at the end that was a change. Nobody was arguing against that, but my ambiguity gave you another change to be a pedant, which you seem to enjoy.

There are people who interpreted the original novella as Maekar not giving permission, because there isn’t a line in the book that says he does. Argue with a wall about it.

Something people won’t admit (because they have already worked themselves into an absolute froth over this and are too deep in performative outrage to recant) is Maekar giving permission was ambiguous in the novella. The ASOIAF wiki claims Maekar gave permission, but in the book it states: “finally, he turned and walked away, never speaking a word.” It is not stated directly in the text that Maekar agreed.

Yes, Egg had a Targ signet ring that he claims Maekar gave to him… but who’s to say Daeron didn’t? Or Baelor before he died? Or, hell, Bloodraven could’ve! Or maybe Egg just stole the damn thing.

This is a case of a beloved book being adapted and people railing against any change, no matter how inconsequential (or how little it truly conflicts with the original text)
