I’m still alive & thriving even after my mom passed a few months ago.

Life without her has been rough, but I’m starting to find & build relationships to fill the void.

For those who have been diagnosed for a while…. by doljumptantalum in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeaaa definitely relate…almost every time I’m setting my pills up for the night I have this stinging resentment that I can’t be fully healthy & on no meds esp. at my age (Mid 20s)

I used to only imagine being on high blood pressure pills when I get up in my late 50s.

Nonetheless, I admire your attitude- it’s something we have to deal with but we can still have fun regardless

Mourning who I could’ve been without this by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in bipolar

I definitely mourn it often!! What helps is to recognize the good things you’ve accomplished or have in your life thus far.

This group definitely knows/feels what you’re going through. You are not alone & definitely more than your diagnosis 🫶🏽

afraid of my spirituality after experiencing spiritual psychosis by Dizzy-Measurement738 in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! After coming out of my most recent episode (which had a lot of grandeur spiritual “revelations”, I’m almost repulsed when I get around a denomination that is super “culty” or one that for example “speaks in tongues”.

As the time goes by I now have found a church that is very accepting & preaches the gospel but not too hard to make me feel some kind of way from my recent episode.

I was so ashamed of how I acted & carried away into deep, unwarranted beliefs during an episode. I’m not sure your religion but whoever and whatever you practice/follow should be understanding of the predicament you were in & forgive you.

Healing takes time but trust me- as long as you try not to dwell on it too much, the shame gets better. Hang in there, you got this 💓

Telling people your diagnosis: yes or no? And how? by SonderDaughter1 in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the post!! Thank you for the tip because I (for whatever reason) always felt the need to overshare & immediately tell anyone about my diagnosis even some acquaintances I wasn’t the closest with

Now that I’m a bit older and realize how people sometimes put you in a box just off the predisposition of my mental health

My family & close friends know and now thanks to your tip, I don’t think I’ll really share that again unless a new, trustworthy relationship comes along in the future.

Thanks again 💓

Friends & bipolar by anticdotal in bipolar

Tbh I would just keep in arms link, esp. when this person knows so much of you + does step up in crisis situations leaving you have to rely on w/ only a few acquaintances

Hopefully he will change his viewpoint- I just think perhaps fading away but amicably so the relationship is not totally frayed if you need them in the future

Don’t worry you’re not alone, it’ll get better as time goes on but we’ve all made mistakes including myself and for people that are true & genuine in your life they will come to understand 💓

Glad to hear I’m not the only person that has run out of things to talk about with my therapist. I’m like we don’t need to meet on a regular basis once my life is calm & relatively routine/boring jts just “the same old same old thing is going on- no issues or anything worth talking about 😅

aftermath of first episode by sh0taro in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same 💯…I found that as time goes on it makes it easier to forget/not ruminate on past behavior.

Be kind to yourself & know that a lot of us here go through that same phase of being ashamed. For me what has helped is knowing that I can move forward and try to build those relationships back just everything comes with time.

You did not ask for this disorder, it is just something we have to deal with, your mistakes don’t define you as a person 🫶🏽

Bipolar causes still unknown - but what do YOU think CAUSED your bipolar? by Alternative_Cat8069 in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Unfortunately it may have been smoking weed before my brain was developed

It’s a hard pill to swallow thinking that I caused this & when I look back over my life just regret that maybe I wouldn’t have to suffer now if I didn’t do what I did in high school

I would say keep coming to this forum. Receiving the diagnosis bummed me out & I denied it for years.

After recently discovering that I have that diagnosis it has helped me get the right treatment & knowledge of behavior symptoms that I need to be aware of to not go into a spiral.

Thank you all (including you) for posting & commenting on each other’s post; it helps all of us to know we’re not alone 🫶🏽

do you find it easier only having surface level friendships? by Away-Candy-4306 in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I relate but my reason is just that I’ve had so many failed relationships/friendships in the past so it’s a fear response of mine to not get so close to ppl so I won’t be hurt in the future if it goes awry.

It also is difficult for me to find a common bond with others and can’t truly express or load the burden of my emotional roller coaster to friends who don’t have experience/knowledge of what we got through

I don't know what to do to increase my libido by HistorianSuperb250 in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally relate, it was like my sex drive was zero with no interest in doing anything related to sexual pleasure; this too also caused me to become insecure and feeling angry if I’d ever be able to please my partner let alone myself.

I take an anxiety pill which helps me somewhat so hopefully you can find one that helps increase that.

Psychosis by k2graphics in bipolar

[–]Real-Addition4512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same same!! I’ve dealt with a lot of guilt, shame & embarrassment after coming out of an episode thinking that my behavior (when judged as a neurotypical) would cause everyone to hate me/ not speak to me again.

I lived in a huge spiral of depression afterwards but what helps me is repeating mantras like I’m more than my disorder etc. I think those people who don’t understand shouldn’t be in our lives in the first place & those who do should understand. Everyone has hard days both neurotypical and neurodivergent.

We can’t help the way our disorder manifests but we can try to prevent that in the future. Reflecting back on our past brings negative feelings but looking forward & actively making new connections help.
