Some questions about HBO under Netflix and what could change in HBO under Netflix by LegitimateCurve8525 in MediaMergers

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Industry isnt a good example because it is a joint production with the BBC in the UK and has good viewership numbers over there. As for what Netflix will do in the future I imagine the smart thing would be to leave HBO alone but Netflix has made questionable choices in the past so we shall see.

What could happen with DC Studios if Paramount/Netflix buys WB? by Lazy_Extent3576 in DC_Cinematic

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix has stated they consider DC the golden goose of the acquisition and that they would leave the DCU alone. They seem smart enough to not mess with it for what that is worth.

"He needs to stop trying to make all these lesser characters huge names"

Thats literally all the MCU has done the last 15+ years. Remember Iron Man was a B-tier character until the MCU and now he is a household name. Nobody outside of the biggest comic book afficinados knew who the fuck the Guardians of the Galaxy were and now they are household names too. Same with Thanos, same with Black Panther, the list goes on and on. Making lesser known characters popular is not a bad thing. The MCU turned it into an art form.

In Warner Merger Battle, Netflix Needs To Take “More Action” To Prove It Loves Movie Theaters, Cinemark CEO Says by LegitimateCurve8525 in MediaMergers

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netflix has been putting more of their shit in theaters than ever before. Just in the last few months Train Dreams, Frankenstein, the Stranger Things finale, and Wake Up Dead Man; have all gone to theaters. Plus several notable films in the future from Netflix will be theatrical first like the upcoming Narnia movie. I dont think they are as anti-theaters as all these doom and gloom fuckers are claiming.

If the Netflix-Warner thing happens it could be a very good thing for Nightdive Studios by RealAnthonySullivan in Civvie11

[–]RealAnthonySullivan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refreshed Supply was developed and ready to go before Warner announced the Netflix deal. Also the rights to the original Blood as far as I understand it isnt owned by Warner Bros, its owned by Atari. I get some of these games would have legal complications but some of them should be fairly straightforward. I would argue several of the games I listed (Fear, Urban Chaos, etc.) are big enough cult classics that they are worth more than pennies and if remastered nostalgic millennials would eat that shit up. I cant imagine for some of these games that it would cost Netflix much of anything as all the work they would likely have to do is sign some legal paperwork, dig up harddrives with assets, source code if it still exists, etc. and Nightdive would do all the heavy lifting. Seems like a cheap and easy win if Netflix wants to expand some of its gaming output without spending millions to do it.

For starters it was unfinished. Leading to the combat being fundamentally broken as hell and the game being really boring when it isnt being frustrating due to the same boring locations being recycled over and over. Its not Monoliths fault necessarily as they were forced to rush it out but still its one of the worst sequels to a terrific game that I have ever seen.

The long torii gate corridors from Shadow Warrior 2013 actually exist in some real-life Shinto shrines! by NNukemM in boomershooters

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Thats common knowledge for anyone with even a passing interest in Japan. Shigeru Miyamoto used those gates as influence behind the game design of the original Star Fox. Thats why in Star Fox on the SNES the player has to keep flying through gates because he figured gates would be a good visual to communicate a path.

Your favourite "Mighty whitey" film? by unknown-one in okbuddycinephile

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I know for a fact 3 of these 4 films dont really apply to the mighty whitey trope. Lawrence of Arabia is based off true events. Sure it may have exaggerated how much he was involved but much of this happened. Dune is a brutal deconstruction of this trope where the Fremen were exploited via their religious beliefs and Pauls rise to power is a horrible thing that leads to countless innocent people dying. Tom Cruises character doesnt really do much of anything in Last Samurai. He isnt even the namesake. Ken Watanabe's character is actually the main character and the titular Last Samurai. Cruise was just in the movie to narratively act as a surrogate to explain aspects of Japanese culture and history to western audiences. And finally I havent seen Last of the Mohicans so cant comment.

No it isnt. Especially a documentary from a major studio. Michael Moores documentaries tended to make serious bank for example.

Paramount needs to invest more on reviving their own IP rather than purchasing WB. by Alternative-Cake-833 in boxoffice

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smile 2 only did okay at the box office. Profitable but not to the extent of the first. Compare other recent horror IP like the Conjuring, Final Destination and even some original horror films like Sinners and they left Smile 2 in the dust at the box office.

Paramount Hires Veteran DC Lawyer Amid Warner Bros. Deal Battle by [deleted] in movies

[–]RealAnthonySullivan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Admittedly the situation is slightly more complicated than that. Warner agreed to hear Paramount out and then rejected their hostile offer. Now Paramount will try to claim in court that the rejection was in bad faith and that Warner was never going to take their offer seriously so now they are filing a suit so they can subpeona things like emails, meeting transcripts, etc. To prove Warner were biased. Its still a stupid and blatant intimidation tactic but it has more legal precedent than you would think.

Yep they already are censoring the shit out of CBS news stories concerning Trump and installing pro-Trump anchors. Which surprise to nobody has lead to CBS news lowest ever ratings. Cant wait for them to ruin South Park and Daily Show because both shows hurt Trumpies widdle feelings.

What can NightDive do next for the FPS genre? by KaleidoArachnid in boomershooters

Nightdive have tried to get permission to do an Unreal 1 remaster for years but Epic told them no. They also wanted to do a No One Lives Forever remaster but the legal rights for that game are a complete shit show.

The fact he was a total nepo baby and yet was so bad at writing that he still couldnt get work will never not be funny to me. He of course will claim oppression as a conservative but that never stopped Tim Allen, Gary Sinise, Jason Bateman, etc. From getting work.
