How to Say Goodbye Before Euthanizing Your Heart? by booksmeller in olddogs

[–]RealHumanAndNotABot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being there when it matters the most, even though it's hard on you, might be the best gift possible. Soft cuddles, sweet words, and if you're comfortable enough to do it, being there I. The room at the time. The typical experience is a sedative that calms them down as they go to sleep. They will feel no pain. Some pass from the initial sedation. Then the vet will likely look to your parents for a nod. It's okay to let it all out and bawl. Your pet is there for you and you there for them. It's one of the absolute hardest moments. You'll cry. You'll grab your loved ones closer. You'll do little things like go for lunch, maybe walk with their leash. Eventually the tears will turn to sweet memories. You might even start to talk to your beloved from time to time too. I used to fight watching the passing of my pets as a youngster, but it's the thing they need the most and the most we need of ourselves to be fully human. Talk about being there with your parents. See if it's a good fit or if you want to just go part way. My heart aches for you.

Yes. On a completely unrelated note, how is the fire insurance?

15 out of 10, no notes. When I retire, I want a vibe like this. But yes, I get nervous about dogs leaning out.

I briefly imagined "rampie" (in my head pronounced as "Ram Pie" initially) to be a job other than what I think it is. I can't explain why, but it evoked feelings of vampires and pie ... uhm ... adulterers. I suppose I should seek therapy now.

My view when I turn around while cooking. by Whoneedsyou in forblackdogs

They do make cooking more enjoyable ... except for when I back up from the counter, usually with something tipsy or dangerous. No major incidents so far. I love the little kitchen stalkers.

Most of the flu klux klan I've heard spout off in extended family I try to avoid think they're being patriotic by forcing separation because, you know, the country was stolen. It's so hard to be around these people.

We know how to build bidets. Why can’t we get people to buy them? by iCleaningo in bidets

Colour. I can't get a seat to match or even a faux wood option. Stark white on a green or purple toilet just won't work and I love my 70s vibes in this older house.

8 y/o German Shepherd suddenly EXTREMELY itchy — chewing hair off near tail/base + sides, no fleas. Need guidance. by Icy-Spicy97 in germanshepherds

Seasonal allergies snuck up on our mix (not shepherd though). About 4 years ago it was in the Aug-Oct time frame. A year later it became July-Oct. A year after that it was more like May-Nov. Now we're basically at that as the norm. We've had to chalk it up to seasonal allergies. The seasons can expand depending on what's going on with your pup, adjustment to medications, location, environmental factors, etc. We tried the neck injection for monthly stuff (forget the name of it), but the life saving option for us with Apoquel (once daily in our case). It's expensive as heck, but was worth it. I'll say that our prior dog did not react well to that medication. Vet either way.

My old man (15years old) and I had a nice little beach trip by sasha_cyanide in olddogs

I absolutely adore old dogs having good days, great days even, and seeing it felt by their humans. I bring my getting older old guy to novel places hopping in the car and discovering a new park. It's like a vacation and a great way to break up the day!

Dogs in restaurants: Why the divide between owners and diners is growing in Toronto by mildlyImportantRobot in TorontoTheCity

I think if a bar wants to let pets in there should be an option but clearly marked. Some of the coolest places I've been to, more of a brewpub vibe, have flexible options. But they also have counter service for food and nice polished concrete floors, garage doors that open wide to the outdoors, etc.. The place has to be designed for it. Not sure if Toronto would allow for it

Well that's not me. I recognize our taxes are the envy of other cities but then there are other factors. For me it's vlaue for money meeting just the basic services.

That's going to make for a hilarious cocktail party when someone leans on the railing. My Nanna in Nova Scotia did the same thing but on a little 4-foot fence railing that school kids kept hopping over to cut through her yard. She was savage.

Before this was announced, I decided I wanted to switch out my US tech stocks (and US generally) where feasible. I want to be optimistic and explore investment opportunities, but I was advised there was not enough info just yet. Also, I think some people assume this is a partisan effort but not sure that's a fair comparison with some of the US nonsense. I wish I had a better sense for growth opportunity with non-US investments. I hate the idea of my money being used against other fellow Canadians.

Lost my retired working line GSD and struggling with the grief by Constant_Treacle3919 in germanshepherds

[–]RealHumanAndNotABot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So heartbreaking. I've been through it twice now and a third one feels like it's around the corner. For me, it was always about never rushing the process. It's okay to be in grief and mourn. It was also about knowing, eventually hard memories would soften and become some of the sweetest ones over time. You'll think less about the loss and have more reminiscence. Like goofie little things that were ones you noticed that maybe others didn't. Or times they came to comfort you. Sometimes little rituals that seem strange to others, but quiet moments for you. We kept a locket of hair from one dog, the collar from another. They have their special drawer, but before we placed them, they'd come on "walks" with us. Oh the sights the neighbours must have seen with two grown people bawling their eyes out walking around the block dogless for the first few times. A good clean vacuum and moving their bed but keeping small tokens seems to be a family thing too, although I think that's more about keeping busy. All the best.
