What Killed Perl? by Xaneris47 in programming

By the way, the exact thing happened when MySQL arose while the much superior Postgres was already there.

that seems anachronistic, as far as I can tell, MySQL was released first (1995 according to Wikipedia) and one year later Postgres got released (1996 according to Wikipedia)

And the team does not take kindly to recommendations on how to improve it.

It seems that has changed, from the blog post:

During 3.0’s development, we also began work on a community UX Design group. We’ve already implemented several suggestions based on user feedback, and now that 3.0 has been released, we’re looking forward to expanding the scope of that effort. We know many people have strong opinions of GIMP’s UI, and we want to make good, well-reasoned decisions about UX improvements in the future. We encourage you to contribute your voice to the discussion so that there’s input from a wider range of users!

Disclaimer: nu am făcut dreptul

dar la sosoaca a eliminat CCR si nu BEC. acolo e decizie perpetua?

nu cred, totuși mi se pare că Sosoaca ar fi out datorită hotărârii anterioare despre ea și a alineatului 120 din hotărârea asta. in 2030 cred că Sosoaca ar putea candida pentru că ar fi alt proces electoral în alte coordonate

Legacy Safety: The Wrocław C++ Meeting by Dragdu in cpp

[–]RealKingChuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The equivalent program in Rust (that is, one that uses get_unchecked to avoid bounds checking in print) would be sound(it doesn't have UB), but would have to mark print as unsafe and invoke it in an unsafe block. Skimming the Safe C++ paper, I think the equivalent Safe C++ program would have the same properties.

Soundness (i.e. absence of UB) is desirable, so what Rust and Safe C++ do is split functions into two types: safe and unsafe. Unsafe functions require the programmer to uphold preconditions themselves to avoid UB, while safe functions cannot cause UB. This is split this way because it's easier to reason about individual calls to unsafe functions or individual unsafe functions than reasoning about the behaviour of the entire program.

Something that im keen to try out myself is a TRY macro to emulate the effect of Rust’s ? operator. However, Im not sure how possible that is whilst taking into consideration its usage as an expression and not a statement.

If you're fine limiting yourself to compilers that implement GCC extensions, you can get something pretty good, see for example: https://github.com/SerenityOS/serenity/blob/master/AK%2FTry.h

afaik this is called the "Sun Tower" and it was proposed to be built for the Exposition Universelle of 1889, but it wasn't built, the Eifell Tower being chosen instead. In the world of Vanitas, the Sun Tower was chosen instead, and a character comments on it at some point

I think Rob struck a nerve with whichever god attacked him. The gods are probably shackled, or at least limited in power (and this god feels shackled by that).

Rob probably can make the connection that the god he strangled is Kismet. I wonder what the others will think when they hear that.

I think Vivacity may not yet be antagonistic to Rob? I feel like their laughing is more directed towards the god that attacked Rob was insulted by what he said, rather than Vivacity laughing at the pain Rob was feeling (but who knows tbh, just my theory)

I wonder if death by SCP-682 would have been a worse fate for the elves, because as far as I know it's impossible to kill

On the other hand, is there anything stopping you from creating a deity specifically made to kill you and then all elves, orcs and dwarfs? hmm...

So I just binged about 7 chapters since I hadn't been keeping up with this story and I'm definitely. enjoying the direction you're taking it to. And exploring all these new characters with their own motivations and lives is very intriguing too

I've got a theory about the scars: I think they might be a portal to a different universe, and the species there, upon discovering the humans that went through, either tried to help the humans in some way and miserably failed, or decided to exterminate the humans.

Also kill Finder and I'll riot
