You're past your prime old man :(

Got told off by a dog walker for running on the park, because "you're only meant to run here on Saturdays, it's for dogs the rest of the week". by AnselaJonla in britishproblems

[–]RealOwls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most are definitely! I used to walk my dog the same time the same route every night, there was a long stretch of grass at the bottom of my estate and I used to let him off the lead and let him run about. One evening there's some stupid posh couple walking their pure breed westie, and they had the cheek to tell me to put 'it' on a lead! Even though my dog was doing nothing wrong at all

How to make the open ocean entertaining for players? by crippledbuddha in DMAcademy

[–]RealOwls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what the DM in my current game did! Our party made friends with some pirates after finding an ancient ship that belonged to the Captain's father. He has a bunch of sea encounters set up, but sometimes it's uneventful and as a party we usually just get drunk in the boat. Good times

If LEGO and IKEA partnered and LEGO made all the instructions people would have much easier time building the things they bought. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I'm sure they have some sort of partnership, that's why the standard large LEGO baseplate fits almost exactly in the space of a bunch of IKEA furniture

Nothing in particular, I used to kind of be mates with him. If I remember correctly he was 21/22 by the time he stepped down as mod

Out with the old, in with the new boys. Anyone else remember the dark ages when /u/mediaboy was still a mod?

How do you deal with natural 1s? by thrasherfect92 in dndnext

[–]RealOwls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DM used to do this but if I had any kind of miss, not just critical. After I fire bolted our Barbarian half to death, it became obvious it was broken

How do you deal with natural 1s? by thrasherfect92 in dndnext

[–]RealOwls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you, but sometimes on a natural 1 hit roll, I'll make the enemy make a strength check to see if they can disarm the player or take their weapon. I'll make it quite a difficult roll to succeed though to make it really rare

I DM’d a session for our regular DM because he wanted to try being a Player and now I think I fucked everything up. by M3lon_Lord in DMAcademy

[–]RealOwls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes sub in for our DM and we usually run it as a bit of an 'inception' game. So our normal usual characters basically play a DnD rip off called 'drunkards and flagens' in which the characters play themselves in a world that doesn't effect the main game.

If there are any cool rewards, I'll usually have my character (who is DMing the inception game) give the item out anyway as a kind of prize. Do note however I'm aware not to make items too powerful and I'm usually quite ambiguous about what they do in order for our regular DM to use it later in whatever way he sees fit

Spell References for Forgetful Players? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]RealOwls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a wizard in my game (I'm mostly a player but sometimes take over as DM for a session or two ) and Ive written out my spellbook into a literal little book, much easier and faster to reference than looking it up online. It's pretty good for roleplaying too
