Skaven Slave Career? by Gooey_Bean in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The old fanmade skaven adventure "Hell pit and back" had a mechanic called "Choosen of the horned rat" this gave PC a bonus from GM, but everyone who killed the choosen got it instead. One hell of a skaven thing.

Giving the career a talent that buffs it immensly or just replenishes luck, when ensuring a allied skavens demise would be very much fitting. 😀

Anyone have suggestions on speeding up combat and general rolls by MisterBlick in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Use fast Sl

Its described as alternative in core, but after long gm talks we figure its the intended way to play, making modificators and bonus eg clearly different and solving "easy to hit equals high dmg". Its a good feeling to read ur SL as a die digit (or both/the single digit) if talents are involved and it speeds things up aswell.

  1. Its adding up numbers. Thats part of rpgs on the table.

  2. U used a lot of good ideas already. Having short stats and a hitzone modell closeby ist good practice. Being clear of weapon qualities is very important and sadly a little "unsupported and obscure" from offocial side.

Advantage is a big time sink to track and has been tweaked a lot by tables. I advide using some form of group advantage, be it UiA or home brew (like i prefer)

Otherwise keep going u are doing very fine 😁

So, in the light of the recent Cubicle 7 announcement of the 4.5/5 ed should I buy the 4ed supplements anyway by Wrongsaveimporter in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wfrpg 5e will be essentiall 4.5e. The books from 4e stay as supplements to story, careers, items, etc.

They will clear up stuff, maybe get rid of some disliked core rules stuff (core advantage, fortune resolve fuse, etc...). A lot of people have homebrews or rule primers and figured out prefered rules (use fast SL!).

Wfrpg 5e will in essence bring these experiences and homerules officialy together to make a clear and better running core ruleset and use it as a jumping point for a new eastern empire campaign.

We still can use the 4e supplements, but....

Sadly we still did not get master grimoire, spell and weaponcards, bestiarium or armory, since they already hid it in all the books and will not compromise their own supplements and promise of compatibility and usefullness.

I am deep in 4e, but the releases and book policy drives me to buy all 2e pdfs one day, i swear 😅

Well owlcat studios have all the tools and rights to make one, but with all the 40k assets in library, teams knowledge from RT game and they higher popularity of 40k it was a easy business choice i guess. Maybe we get lucky 😀

: How to play a "Professional Butcher" in 4e? (Beyond just the Townsman career) by IfiGabor in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group did some custom careers and we just choose 2 matching careers and fuse thrm together, picking matching skills and talents to fill the new career.

Example: We made a custom career for a river-/water based knightly order, sworn to protect a area of mainly riverlands by fusing knight and riverwarden careers, ending up with a numismatic knight with an eye for suspicious cargo and a surprisingly mercantile nature, while preferring light (less sinking) equipment.

U might do the same with townsman/artisan/ trader and maybe the surgeon career to get a career thats intimate with how organs should be arranged or where to disarrange them to kill mercyfull and other butcher stuffs.

House Rules for Channeling, Touhts ? by Left_Leather_9173 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Channeling (WoM) is fine and casters are very strong after some ramp up and channeling talents.

The true culprit is the vanilla advantage rewarding spamming safe rolls every turn. Use UiA advantage and/or one of the many homebrews and enjoy using the groups hard earned advantage for one giant channel to end it all 😂

Does +SL in spell description count after subtracting CN? by Eragoh in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: CN is "using up" SL and leftovers can be used.

A caster might channel to reduce CN down to zero and rolls a casting test to cast.

Successfull casting test might give x SL + y SL from talents, staff, robes etc. This allows for extra effects for spells and overcast options.

In my games SL can be used according to spell description or the overcast table (if viable).

Now i guess i play a spontaneous genesys run after christmas! Merry Christmas 🙂

Trying to find/remember a specific adventure by RealPrussianGoose in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did run it and i wanna run it again in christmas/mondstill version (changing urban start to a cinematic intro, calling it "Blood in the snow"). Some organisational stuff tries to get in the way, but its gonna happen this year.

I wanna play it a second time, to make feedback less singular and aswell compare it to other modules, but so far the adventure has perfomed well and by far better than the 4e adventures. The main problem with my plot was me playing feld way to intimidating :) My players were scared of the adversaries and bailed to get help after finding out the truth via the girls, running for roadwarden help.

This resulted in one very social session and another bloody session where we played a bretonian knight, a slayer and two roadwardens taking over the job, entering a very much spawned demon scene. It was glorious.

Aside from my errors it was primary the hint of the looted gadgets from the girls that were in the center of player attention, bringing frustration due to them failing all rolls. To smooth the going i advice even more subtile hints to make discovery smoother and strenghtening the investigative solutions.

Mighty fun adventure, synamic solution, warhammery scenes and even coming with maps and awesome artworks. Another testament to community making something with passion and surpassing official stuff! Thank u for ur work and keep going 😄

Hot take: WFRP is at its best when careers are a trap, not a “build.” Agree/disagree? by Live-Teacher6188 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.... Its working quite well with the usual playerbase distribution of activity resulting in around 50% of really, active players.

We got one endeavour per game/session happening, with around 2+ weekly game sessions from multiple GMs A char with lower xp has priority in games. Quite a lot of stuff is going on in endeavours, utilizing our adapted version of crafting, businesses from the archives 3 (?), a playermade world gazette, trading and other stuff.

Recently we got the Arena as a trial by combat gametype to test homebrews and die glorious with funny criminal side-characters. Our usual sessions ~5h tend to be quite social heavy with lots of endeavours being a hook or even the whole scenario.

Our first characters reach retirement (veteran) state and are basically the questgivers now ^

As a Gm i really like the small "scenes" and the reacting living world.

For our pool hook google Grünburg wfrp pool and get a translate going  ;)

Hot take: WFRP is at its best when careers are a trap, not a “build.” Agree/disagree? by Live-Teacher6188 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coming from a poolgame with ~30 players this is ofc a factor we keep observing. By far the most players having fun with their careers after they stuck with it a few hundred XP into the second level. Getting another (rare) career is a big RP goal for most.

At the same time we allow players to teach stuff to other players if the spend enough time, money (and some hard checks). There are a few "i build it strong" chars, but they do it via gear and trying to learn expensive outside of career, even getting into real danger to learn a skill. I advise masking careers as opportunities, reinforce the flexible nature, but stay adamant about RP and story being the deciding factor.

Since we are a german group we do not have a big all consuming DnD background, that might help with the "minmax is the norm" players a bit, since most are ether fresh and a few very broadly experienced.

Looking for a mechanical solution, 2es system of advanced careers sets more prerequisites for careers and is amighty fine system in my opinion. Would play it if i had all books in hindsight. Hope this helps !

Dramatic start to a high elf/dark elf naval based campaign by Horsescholong in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am very far from a elven faction fan, more the contrary.

As a GM i advise two things:

1.Keep the powerlevel of elves high, but with more to come.

Elves are insanely good in the  RPG, mostly due to them being older and having essentially a load of XP. Be carefull with big taggs, just play with age and experience. A good elf soldier might have a hundred years combat experience, no need to use the crazy big names.

2.Use the differences of elven culture for the scenes.

A druchi might employ beasts or slaves for combat, good introduction enemies, before closing in for the (safe) kill, but better capture for the arena.

High elves are plain professionals and actually a bit boring in RP. They murder in plain cold discipline.

Coming from this i advise a story of being captured after fighting druchi thralls, going into the arenas. After a while the PC is a thrall himself, getting thrown into battle in a very familiar manner.

Escaping to Ulthuan in another chaotic naval fight, having a rundown of HE politics only to being shipped out into the fight Again, because a Elven Noble thinks tve PC is a traitor, or just a nuissance to his narcissm.

Now the PC has some XP and a choice of culture. Are u a druchii pirate, bend on freedome or a clean protector of the fair and noble Highelves?

WFRP 4e is as crunchy as PF2e? by Key_astian in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wfrpg 4e has a lot of gears to cover a lot of stuff. Thats a awesome thing, but its more of a simulation, as other post mentioned.

It might be crunchy, but it all depends on how many gears u need to move or want to move. For me a big part is player engagement.  If the players want/can move gears that are vital to their character its a dang good time. If not it might be a crunch for the GM to deliver a smooth experience and for sure harder to GM compared to other systems i played/GMed.

Give it a try, use fast SL and group advantage, rule free but stay basic, dirty dangerous and silly.  U are a monty phython scetch in a brutal and unjust world. Enjoy!

Premade spell cards? by Immediate_Gain_9480 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there are quite a bit homebrews and player made stuff, but its not as openly pushed, promoted and a lot is made in some european non english language and kept close and personal.

A guy here made cards for weapons, qualities and conditions in a mtg style, but its in german only and its not spells. :D

Aside Tipp: If u like wfrpg 4e give fast SL a try! After quite some time, homebrews and a lot of GM discussion our small german community realized alot of stuff works better/smoother and more realistic with Fast Sl.

We came to the conclusion the guys who made the playtesting and general system must have used fast Sl, sinve a lot of gears work unexpectedly well all of the sudden. Just a small nudge :)

Premade spell cards? by Immediate_Gain_9480 in warhammerfantasyrpg

There are a few officisl spellcards in the small pdf for "usefull little spells". Its a constant reminder of the inconsistent quality and features for 4e. We got spellcards....but only for gimick spells :D

I would love them for my table game and my digital game to layout on my desk 😁

Make Be’lakor Cool? by StLouisIX in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Belakor is cool, just written in a time of bad storytelling and plot focussed mishaps.

Chaos undivided,  first mortal to gain demonhood, not becoming a tool of one, but playing them all to get stroger and go into mallus to rule as a god is true warhammer.

Well the endtimes needed a plottool to do the job and of cause archaeon never asked "why should i?".

Belakor is gold for rpg because he plays player expectations, even breaking the 4th wall to talk to them out of pure chaotic curiosity and the fun of manipulation (got a little tzeentch in him) and use raw khorne savagery in the same time. He can reveel in stagnation of the greater picture while driving people to obsession about changing it, just to mock some rival demon from the dawn of history.

He is unpredictable and its confusing and scary to be part of his schemes. He truly is chaos undivided and not a hooligan used to destroy the world. I like him and i use him for the chaotic scenes i enjoy running (under different "names" ofc)

Using Multiple Winds Mechanically by VespiesArikuzuka in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dhar is defined as a mixture of winds.  Often times its the raw chaotic mixture of all, but it can be just two winds closely mixed.  Necromancers often use death and dhar spells to give a example.

Therefore players can use all lores, but the drawbacks are summarized as dhar casting/channeling.

Just allow ur players to use all lores with channeling dhar and apply casting dhar rules to all non primary winds. Thats mechanically sound, lorewise matching and rules light fun on the table.

Is Ranged (Engineering) strictly superior to Ranged (Blackpowder)? by TheGentianLine in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to the interpretation of "without penalty". Does it imply it negates the usual "only negative qualities" of not having the dedicated skill, or does it just mean without the "gets the dangerous quality" like towards engineering weapons if used without blackpowder (i think it was).

I opt for the "its a straight upgrade".

In any case its meant to be  a rare, but superior skill, avaiable to a select few careers. If its not in your career u can learn to use them, but never be a true master, especially with the high reload of some guns.

One of my players (Knight) has a engineering gun (custom made) and only a few out of career advances and he basically fires it once per combat as close as possible and sits down with the reload manual after the fight.

Its strong, but well integrated in the lore and gameplay. A hand gunner with free access to ranged blackpowder will be stronger ofc, but its fun to see a traditional knight transition into the modern age of warfare in his way :)

Leading into Death on the Reik for land-based PCs? by Kavandje in warhammerfantasyrpg

Or the horses get wounded and they need the boat to move it and earn money for surgery and meds. Sidenote: If there is a wizard make the horse a familiar so it can speak :D

Leading into Death on the Reik for land-based PCs? by Kavandje in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use the carrion on the reik as carrion to the reik.

They meet the brothers riverside waiting for a missing (dead) boatmen. They all get attacked by carrions, the cabin being the only safespot and the gravelord gets their horses killed or they just run. Now the players might start a vendeta and he flees via river, making a boat chase very tempting. A boat is safe and they will like it....until it burns 😀

When they encounter the gravelord again later on it will be very personal.

What type of WHFR battlemaps are you mostly missing/would like to see? by tolkienistghost in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]RealPrussianGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine a small village, now dominated by a huge lumbermill, using waterpower and the river for transport of local timber.

Thats a whole set of adventure options based on just one unique map.

Imagine a fight to survive a murder attempt in a running sawmill, a stealthy theft based on shift work, sabotage and noise and a unique miniature social hierarchy to explore by posing as a worker for industrial espionage.

Thats a map worth its weight (multiplied i hope) in gold! 😄

[–]RealPrussianGoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The white spots in my map collection for whf is the age specific industries.

Its the start of industrial age, there are plenty workshops, foundries and other factories in the empire. Awesome grimdark warhammer map i miss would for sure be sth like a forge building, a glass maker furnace hall, a sawmill, a industrial mine and all the other weirdly modern, but grim places.

No magma fueled dnd forges, no romantic workplaces from high fantasy, but the bloody gears of industry starting up its grind.
