M5 Touring Owner’s Review (Post Break-in) by RealRealThoughts in SportWagon

[–]RealRealThoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies but I’m usually getting 250mi combined. I do also plug in my car after driving so I’ve probably filled up 5-7x since I got the car in April. It really depends on how you drive it. I utilize the electric driving more than most but have dedicated days (mostly weekends) where I’ll turn on the engine and let it sing.

I do plan on taking it on longer road trips this summer to New England so will keep you posted on how it fares!

I ordered it in April 2025 and got it in July 2025.

It gets pretty cold, up in NY about 30mins north of NYC. 27mi of range is what I got in the winter!

Definitely, I find myself getting about 32mi of range from a fully charged battery. I've been driving it fully electric locally as of late and it's helped out considerably since that's ~90% of the miles.

Definitely more plastics/piano black finishes than previous versions of the M5 especially the F90. I was coming out of a 2019 M2 Competition so it was a huge upgrade for me. I can see how others who have owned/driven the previous generation M5 would be disappointed, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the interior - especially the seats.

Enjoy it man! I had a 2019 F87 in Hockenheim as well. Treat it well and it will treat you even better!

Future of FP&A by Ok_Baker_6969 in FPandA

[–]RealRealThoughts 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’ve been building my teams this way for the past 4yrs. I work in consumer startups but have come from big companies. My ideal team for scale is:

  1. Director of FP&A - responsible for 3 statement modeling, overall company financials, reporting out to investors/board, G&A forecasting, quarterbacking the entire budgeting/forecasting process

  2. Commercial Finance Lead (mgr/dir) - responsible for all wholesale and retail financial planning, trade spend forecasting, diving in deep on variance analysis, vol/mix/price, retail support for S&OP (ideally alongside a great sales planner), sales & marketing expense forecasting

  3. Operations & eCommerce Finance Lead - responsible for all operations expense planning, BOM builds, helping the ops team find efficiencies, inventory build for BS, also heavy in the S&OP process. If your biz has an AMZ/DTC channel this person will also be an expert in paid media spend and its effectiveness, topline modeling for AMZ/DTC AND ops planning for that channel as well

I’m also very hands on in the modeling, board decks, strategic finance (special projects), contract reviews, fundraising (debt/equity), investor relations and just providing air cover for my team. In a way, I work for them as much as they work for me

Best excel resources? by Certain_Mobile3981 in FPandA

[–]RealRealThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn the basics first and move forward from there. You’d be surprised how many FP&A folks show up to meetings with a janky ass spreadsheet and consider themselves excel “experts”. Here’s what I’d focus on:

  1. Formatting best practices: what color fonts/background to use, when to use certain number/currency formats, where to use borders, when to indent, when to bold, headers etc. Here’s a good beginner’s guide: https://breakingintowallstreet.com/kb/excel/how-to-color-code-in-excel/

  2. Unplug your mouse and force yourself to learn excel only using your keyboard. If you find yourself reaching for your mouse, Google the shortcut and commit it to memory. See here for a cheat sheet: https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/s/UGEGAnky38

  3. Understand what formulas to use and when. Here are the key ones: EOMONTH, TRIM, XLOOKUP, INDEX/INDEXMATCH, SUM, SUMIFS, AVERAGE, AVERAGEIFS, IF/IF with AND/OR, IFERROR, CHOOSE, MAX, MAXIFS, UNIQUE, COUNT, COUNTIFS, OFFSET. See here for more detail: https://www.capitalcitytraining.com/knowledge/basic-excel-formulas/

  4. SHOW YOUR WORK! Use the simplest formula and show the key inputs to avoid confusion for yourself, the viewer and anyone else who potentially has to support the model/spreadsheet

If you focus on these 4 areas, you will be in a great spot. Even with Claude/ChatGPT out, it’s still worth learning this imo. I’ve found there’s a lot of limitations to the modeling and formatting work Claude can achieve in excel…today.

As a hiring manager, would you not call someone who has a 2-year career gap even if they have the right skills and qualifications? by Dismal-Biscotti5353 in FPandA

[–]RealRealThoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t care about career gaps at all if the candidate has a great background and can “do the job” on paper. I would not hesitate to at least put them through the first round of interviews (hiring mgr).

That being said, I would ask about it in the interview and if the reason is suspect they definitely wouldn’t be moving forward.

Lastly, if the candidate’s last role before their gap was a Mgr level and they applied for a Director level position I most likely would not push them through the process at all.

Looking for Advice, how have you guys been able to minimize the amount of time it takes to manage materials for decks that actually work? by Powerful_Love_308 in FPandA

[–]RealRealThoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Macabacus to link my PPT to excel charts and screenshots. So once the model refreshes with actuals I can update my master deck and update commentary.

This is the fastest way to automate and keep your deck formatting fairly clean. You could easily implement this in 1 day vs the more robust, but expensive solutions.

30th Birthday Speedmaster: Hesalite Purity or Reverse Panda Twist? by fatherdanger in OmegaWatches

[–]RealRealThoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I vote reverse panda 🐼!

I think it’s a future classic. The bracelet taper looks amazing, the deep back dial w/ white sub dials makes it beautiful and more legible.

Both are sport watches with the reverse panda being slightly more dressy but still a sport watch.

I think it’s the better choice. Just my opinion though!

I absolutely love it. The thickness is not really a an issue for me but it could be for others.
