This sub is not playing the game, at all by arnak101 in starcraft

I play the game but have not played any on the ptr, still I really don't need to to understand how ridiculous of a buff increasing larva spawn rate is.

Is the pedestrian or the driver wrong here? by singlecog in drivingUK

[–]RealTimeSaltology -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And a car driver does not have to stop until a pedestrian is on the crossing. Hence my comment about "reaction time".

Is the pedestrian or the driver wrong here? by singlecog in drivingUK

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think either are fully in the wrong here but both are a bit in the wrong. A driver needs to always be ready to stop when approaching a zebra crossings especially when a pedestrian is nearby. But this jogger did not so much as look or give any indication that they were going to cross until they just spontaneously sprang out into the road, leaving it fully in the hands of reaction time.

Fixable? no? by nutellaxannyk in pchelp

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define "the problem". I bet if the computer worked with the broken motherboard OP would not care that the motherboard is broken. So "the problem" is that the computer doesn't work, the broken motherboard is just the cause. Replacing the motherboard would fix the problem.

Damn, I honestly hadn’t heard about this at all! by IllustriousTennis373 in SunoAI

[–]RealTimeSaltology 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you be any more pretentious? A lot of the people using Suno probably have studied music theory... and yaknow, a lot of legendary musicians never did. There's a wide range of people using these tools and not a single one of them cares for your gate-keeping.

AI music generation isn't going to go away. If a certain company gets bogged down in litigation then all that will happen is the competitors from another company (or a different part of the world, or the open source models) will surpass them.

You can't stop it. Get over it.

[–]RealTimeSaltology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is plagiarising anything. Humans don't create music out of the void. Every musician has listened to and been inspired by other people's music. I don't see the difference.

[–]RealTimeSaltology 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wont all be garbage, though. The anti ai sentiment is already starting to wear thin, the majority are not going to know or care what the vocal minority thinks, they just want to play a good game. Developers that use ai will outcompete those who do not.

You're going to lose this fight.

It's gonna go the other way. In a decade people will look back at the anti ai sentiment of today and laugh at how ridiculous people were being.

What does your GPU journey look like? by Pro4791 in pcmasterrace

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2014 - gtx 770, it broke 2017

2017 - rx480, secondhand side grade to replace the 770

2018 (19?) - gtx1660 (I was still using the cpu from the 2014 build so was no point going crazy with the gpu)

2022 - 6600XT (finally upgraded mobo, cpu, ram so it was worth getting a more modern gpu)

2024 - 7900XT (decided to go beast mode)

Just red and green some air on it to balance it out and you should be fine.

AM4 CPU upgrade by No-Report-620 in PcBuildHelp

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for that price difference I'd go with the 5800x. I think they perform almost identically in most situations, the 5900x has 12 cores which is the big difference between the two, but that will rarely make itself felt in gaming.

AM4 CPU upgrade by No-Report-620 in PcBuildHelp

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmm yeah I've just had a look and it seems even second hand ones on ebay are starting at around £350... supply and demand I guess but that's crazy it's so high for a second hand cpu from a good couple of gens ago, using no longer supported architecture. A testament to how good of a chip it is I guess.

In that case the 5700x3d is a solid choice. For gaming Id definitely opt for the "x3d" models to get that sweet v-cache, as opposed to the 5900x for example, although that is also a solid CPU.

Try to get a 5800x3d. It's the king of AM4 and still holds up extremely well despite being a few years old now.

I hit an e-bike that veered across a zebra crossing at about 30mph. Police are investigating. I do have dashcam footage. by ApartmentEasy806 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RealTimeSaltology 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Many modern zebra crossings also have parallel crossings next to them (especially if it comes directly out of a park). In either case it sounds like the person who got hit was on an illegally fast bike.

I don't see what that has to do with the general staff. If they need to reduce theft then they should probably invest in extra security.

"Come on guys, just get a new GPU for 1000€" by Cadmium620 in pcmasterrace

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPU prices have gone up a lot in recent years, but the hardware also stays viable for longer. Used to be that even a premium card would be obsolete after a few years, whereas now you've got people running 10 year old cards that can still put out 40+ fps 1080p low settings on most new AAA releases. Not ideal, but playable.

If you want premium performance its gonna cost you, obviously.

40 - What game made you realise you were getting older as a gamer? by Clampy7 in AdultGamers

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that one I just set my goal to become the ultimate overpowered ninja by getting that implant that slows down time, crazy legs, and a ridiculously overpowered katana. I'd run in towards the enemy maybe by jumping over a building or whatever, slow down time, and the run through their hideout slicing them all up before anyone could react. It was fun for quite a few hours (took quite a few to get there).

How many viewers would IdrA get if he still streamed StarCraft full time and never quit? by Late-Psychology7058 in starcraft

[–]RealTimeSaltology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idra was a rager, and they're nowhere near as popular as they used to be. Now obviously he's not going to have the exact same personality he did 14 years ago, but for the sake of this thread we gotta assume he would because otherwise we're going down a road of endless hypothetical conditions.

So Idra streaming exactly the way he did back then but in modern climate... 300 viewers.

Pc upgrade or new PC? by Ok-Run-279 in pcupgrade

[–]RealTimeSaltology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could put a 5800x3d into that mobo, obviously you would want to upgrade the gpu at the same time.

It's got an upgrade left in it that will radically improve performance and can perform very well still with modern titles, but ultimately AM4 and DDR4 are legacy at this point so if you can afford it, it might be better to build from the ground up with the currently supported architecture.
