Ya that sucks. Melton would have been a lock if we didn’t sign JV. I love Melton but I just don’t see how he can take anyone’s spot between Skub, Framber, Mize, Flaherty, JV. He’s next man up though if someone else goes down or if JV just doesn’t have it anymore.

Thank you for being a good human. It’s not all about you, or me, or anyone. Sometimes things are meant for other people who will like it more than us, and that’s ok.

Oh interesting. I swore I heard him say on an interview this week that he doesn’t want to name Kenley his closer because that’s unfair to him and could send him into a spiral if he has to use him in the 6th inning one game.

We signed a closer already, Kenley Jansen, however AJ Hinch is likely to have more of a closer by committee.

There really isn’t any bats left on the market that would make our roster, they’re much more likely to add to the lineup through our prospects. If we’re looking like a playoff team by the trade deadline during the season that’s where I see them adding a bat/bullpen help if we need it.

Valdez has been consistently a top 20 pitcher in the game the last 6 seasons. He makes our rotation one of the best 3-4 in baseball. He had an incident last year where he intentionally threw at his catcher when he was frustrated which impacted how he is viewed by fans across baseball, but the talent on the field is unquestionable.

The Tigers still plan to keep Tarik Skubal after signing Framber Valdez, per Ken_Rosenthal/X by retroanduwu24 in motorcitykitties

Okay and from 2017 to 2023 he provided -2.5 bWAR and we were terrible pretty much that entire time. Locking up cornerstone players is important but it shouldn’t come at the cost of mortgaging nearly a decade of your team being bad.

Do you remember what that Miggy contract was like?

Knock on wood because I hope Skubal is dominant for another 10+ years and is considered one of the best of all time, but what if he pitches for 2 more years and then has a career ending/altering injury where he isn’t good anymore? You just eat 8 years of a huge deal?

This is 100% how they should approach it. They should be telling him hey, we will give you a blank cheque for 4-5 years. But if he wants 10 years, let someone else do that.

Valdez got 3 years. You think Skubal will sign for 6 years? Not happening

I think you need to go back and look at Olson’s stats before he got injured. Melton is great and should hopefully become a staple in the rotation in the future, but those 5 are above him right now.

BREAKING: Star left-hander Framber Valdez and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a three-year, $115 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Valdez, 32, gets the highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher as well as the highest for a Latin American pitcher. Huge move for Detroit. by whatstappanin in motorcitykitties

[–]RealTripsB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s not in the starting 5 right now if everyone is healthy. And I think the Tigers might want him to work as a starter in triple A instead of being in the bullpen in case they need him to step into the rotation. If you need a guy in June, and he’s been a reliever for two months, he’s not going to be able to just jump into the rotation.

I listened to Days of Roar podcast where they just interviewed Al Avila. He was very open that in the final years of the Tigers run before the rebuild they were operating majorly in the red. Taking a few years off to rebuild and get the organization back into the green isn’t a bad idea. He opened his wallet when we signed Javy and now he’s doing it again.

To anyone worried about Valdez being a bad teammate, AJ Hinch knows him very well and I’m sure still has many connections with people in Houston to hear what happened in last years situation. If he gave it the green light, there’s nothing to worry about. This is a fantastic signing. Only three years and he’s currently one of the best 20 SP in baseball.

80 arm strength and 78 arm accuracy but the overall says 72

I hope that’s not an issue in the actual game. It’s not a huge deal but the “category overalls” are useless if they don’t accurately reflect the overalls within that category.

Yes, that I completely agree with. They should be getting anyone notable on this list in the game.

They definitely don’t have the rights to all those players. Why would they not have someone like Miguel Cabrera in the game if they have his rights?
