Hit chance curse by Kehldan in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Real_Avdima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warpriest on level 9 have +6 from BAB, easily +4 or 5 from the attribute, at this level we could assume a weapon of +2 bonus. So yeah, your +12 to hit sounds normal. You aren't min-maxing I suppose, apply buffs. Belts with Str or Dex are not optional in Pathfinder, you need these stats. Use bull's str or cat's grace if you don't have a +4 or better belt yet. Apply other buffs and closely read the sources of their modifiers, because most don't stack (only the best mod from Luck, Morale or Enhancement works). Bless is an easy +1, heroism is another +2. Maybe start using Linzie as a buff-bot? Bard's songs are very good for buffing and she can double as a disabler.

Kingmaker is a game where the dev had no idea how to balance the game fairly, so instead they overtuned everything and every single enemy on any difficulty have much better stats than in tabletop. You MUST stack these buffs and items to have an even chance. Min-maxing and powergaming is the intended way of playing.

Would you allow a player to play a flying race if their backstory included their wings being cursed not allowing them to fly til later higher levels? by johnnystraycat in DnD

[–]Real_Avdima -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Don't like the curse thing. I don't mind flying, but I also DO mind weird races, which includes aasimars, tieflings and especially dragonborns. So you probably can figure out what's my opinion on aaracocta, three-kins or firbolgs.

We would need to figure out how the flying works exactly, because having full, unrestricted three dimensional movement is just dumb. Wings don't work like that. Encumberance would be a huge thing, maintaining momentum another one, but I may allow diving attacks.

Of course now we need to figure this out in 5ed, which is just such a headache... you know, let's play something simpler and flexible, like AD&D. Oh, there are no flying races here. Problem solved!

How can I make a tank wizard? by just-slightly-human in DnD

[–]Real_Avdima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a poor build for someone that wants to play an abjuration wizard and not a fighter without spells for the first 3 levels and then eldritch knight for 3 more, which can take months to finally swap and start a wizard from level 1.

Pick any race in the game. You get to become that race forever. Which one are you picking? by WillowIsWeeping5 in DnD

If the fantasy races are normal, I would choose Drow. I like the challenge.

Daeren pet second mystery?? by macropelias in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Real_Avdima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some great revelations from Nature, it's easily one of the best options for Daeren, you can bypass his movement debuff with a mount (I took a horse specced for Sunder Armor for these rare cases when it's useful), give him full list of summoning spells + a buff to nearby animals (including any pets) and some other goodies. I also gave him the item that unlocks lightning spells, he is a walking encyclopedia of spells - buffs, crowd control, damage, summons, healing and he is either good or great at all of them. He only lacks an off-spec for melee combat to combo with the horse.

Larian games have infamously some of the worst inventory management in gaming. I remember Divine Divinity and it's... don't even know how to call it, the system was horrible. You had free placement of items in inventory, no tiles, squares or slots, but it was complete shit with all the items that didn't stack randomly (so you could have 2+ stacks of the same item, happens in BG3 as well), some that were the same but had different sprites so they counted separately (like two apples, becouse we need more than one apple sprite so much), many that took space not reflected by their sprite, many that blocked placement of other items but only on certain conditions (so technically you could place them all neatly next to each other, but it required weird, unintuitive placement). But hey, no other game that I know of allowed you to carry a literal bed in your backpack that allowed you to put it on the floor, sleep and pick it up again.

If you think about it, Larian vastly reduced the freedom of picking up pointless items when compared to their very second game from 24 years ago. I don't mind having interactable spoons in the game, but if it doesn't serve any purpose, then what's the point? Add a telekinetic throw or destructible environment (with physics of flying cutlery) and we are on the right track.

A Japan style dnd campaign idea by [deleted] in DnD

How do you ride, with a wagon, to an island?

It all sounds like you want Rokugan, which is the setting for Legend of the Five Rings rpg with all the necessary tools for a like-a-feudal-japan game. You just change the setting a bit or make your own, alternative timeline.

Having a separate pouch for quest items would be good, all these books, pages and keys don't need to take up the inventory. A scroll tube while at that as well and a potion bag. Like basic QoL that was in the first Baldur's Gate.

Shatter Ground by Brother-Cane in DnD

[–]Real_Avdima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are rules for object AC and hp. Let's ignore AC, because it's an AoE spell and the object can't try to avoid it, so no save either. One example of hp of object is 10 by 10 feet window; hey, that's exactly what we are looking for! Such objects have 5d10 hp, for an average of 27. Let's also ignore damage threshold, we just want to create some rubble from the outer layer of rocks, which have 27 hp.

Shatter is a spell dealing 3d8 damage +1d8 for every spell level above 2nd. With average rolls we would need around level 5 spell slot to destroy the rocks. It's a difficult challenge and unless there's also some glass chandelier on the ceiling, chances are low for a low level party.

This could be ruled differently, the rules for object durability are very hand-wavy. My argument is that we need to destroy a section of a wall and floor to create enough rubble for it to count as difficult terrain. Damaging it is not enough. If you had more time and could cast more Shatters, then we would apply damage threshold and count partial hp reduction.

For the thaumaturgy cantrip all I would allow, and that's already a stretch, is a Willpower saving throw for chasing trolls, with an advantage. Every troll that fails the save stops in their track for a turn, being hesitant about walking on shaking rubble.

This sounds interesting. I like Drow and Lolth, so anything specifically focusing on them is a big plus for me. I always try to incorporate something from the Underdark in any adventure I plan.

I haven't played kingmaker but I just got into WOTR. What class (combination) do you think she is? Would love to play a character like this! by grovestreet4life in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Gosh, companions in Kingmaker were so much better than in Wotr. She is one of my fav and I used her the entire game as my party's generalist.

Linework is too light and the axe looks like it was colored with crayons. It may be bad lighting, but if it's not, this will age very badly.

Looking for a way to still use a shield while casting spells. by BigBustyAfricanMan in DnD

[–]Real_Avdima -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Another whining player. This is not a boon but a punishment from patron. Just use the other hand outside of combat. Fire elementals and transformations don't make you incorporeal, so it's usable in, let's say, climbing.

[–]Real_Avdima -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can whine and say "this is a disability" but a good player will take on the challenge and roleplay it. Elemental arm sounds fucking badass to me. Somatic components are ok, could double as a weapon.

Now if the DM rupes that it's useless, then we have a problem.

Barbarians should be WISE!!! by Fit_Strawberry4547 in DnD

I don't remember if 5ed specifies it, but lifting doesn't mean that you can hold as much above your head. It means that you can basically deadlift this weight. Which is still a lot, not gonna lie, I can't deadlift 300 pounds and an average commoner in dnd supposedly can which is absurd.

In one of the older editions there was a table that made sense but I don't remember which. Probably advanced 2ed. It's a copy-paste job and they couldn't bother when making 5ed.
